Foot & Leg Cramps

I've been getting some pretty bad foot and leg cramps on a fairly regular basis for the past couple of weeks.  Sunday the cramp was in the front of my left calf and it had me SCREAMING in pain.  After a few minutes the front of my right calf spasmed up too.  Crawled on my hands and knees to our shower downstairs and placed my legs inside to ho****er could run on them and they finally let up after about 10 minutes of sheer hell.

I've Googled and see it could be all sorts of things but what caught my eye was a lack of calcium, magnesium, vitamin D, electrolytes, etc.  I'm taking my supplements and I've been working hard on drinking enough.  Had my blood work done last week so I'll be anxious to get those numbers back.

Has anyone else dealt with this, how far out were you, and what helped you?  Thanks!

Sorry, no advice as I only have the rare charlie horse, which I notice I have not had as often since having wls.

Just wanted to say I hope the labs give some insight into the pain so you can figure out the best way to alleviate them.

A charlie horse hurts to me so I cannot imagine the pain you described. Hang in there!

Hi Shauna,
I feel for you I have had some horrific cramps but to tell you the truth they seem to be less and less.
Bare with me here LOL a couple of years ago I read about putting a bar of soap in your bed like under the mattress pad the claim was it would help stop cramps and RLS.
You maybe able to read more about this on The Peoples Pharmacy with Joe and Terry Gradon.
I use the soap in my bed every night and replace it every 4 months.
Any kind will do.
There is not a reason why it works I just know it has for me and many others.
I know at one time you could buy quinnine (sp) but did not need a scrip for it but had to ask the pharmasist for it.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

Ok...here is what will work.  I tried the soap, it kept elephants out of my bed as well... just didn't work. I read about that as well.  What WILL work is magnesium citrate.  Only the citrated form of mag.  You won't see any kind of deficiency in your bloodwork because magnesium doesnt show up as depleted.  Magnesium oxide will not work.  I take a 250 mg caplet at night and on those nights I don't have charley horses.  Try it, you'll love it.
