Ok so i'm almost 5 months out, and i started having this stabbing pain in my right side..  Woke me up from a dead sleep, aww to sleep finally but that a whole other story.. so now i have this stabbing pain in my right side.. Right under my ribs.. So i called Dr.Mac's nurse she said it could be my gall bladder? I talked to my good friend Jami, she is also on here and she said it sounds like gall bladder issues... Dr.Mac wont' see me until i have a sonagarm done. My PCM on base can not see me until the Middle of July. We are moving to japan at the end of Aug, so i'm in a little time crunch now...
So could it be my gall bladder this early out from surgery??? what would make it act up???
If i need surgery i need it to be done before we move to japan, yet we are going to be gone on a 4 thousand mile journey to see family. we are going from NC, to MI, to Tx, back to NC, the whole month of july... so yeah....
Could this be my gall bladder, so soon out of surgery?
why didn't they take it while i was under.... gezzz...
thanks for imput... i really really want this pain to GO away, i haven't been able to work out or anything so i feel like a lazy hippo now....

YES IT COULD BE THE GALLBLADDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had lap band on 1-22. Started having pains around 1 month post op. ON March 3, my birthday I seen primary care physician and he said he thought it was gallbladder. Had a ultrasound done and it came back normal, no stones. Had a HYDA scan done-figured my luck it would come back normal. Ohh nooo, the day I had it I was sick as a dog. Got a phone call that afternoon gallbladder only functioning at 9%. Normal is 35-75%.
Now in the past I have had problems with the gallbladder but this was like 10 times worse than any pain I had ever had.

When I went for my consult appointment with Dr. Cox for the lap band. I asked him if he could remove the gallbladder at the same time as doing the lap band. He said they preferred not to. Later I found out that the reason why is that the probe bars that they put in to you to open your stomach up have to be placed differently for the RNY/LAP band than they do for the gallbladder surgery and they can't reach the gallbladder.

I FINALLY persuaded my doctor to go back in and remove the gallbladder after several appointments. I was so glad to have it out. I was not eating correctly and was hungry all the time and was in pain every day to some degree. I am going to be honest, he did not want to go back in so soon after the first surgery but I pushed matters. Did not feel like I could deal with this pain for 3-6 months more.

It was suggested to me to eat bland foods like soup but soup is a slider food for me so it does not stay in the band so I am starving. I could do potatos, sweet potatos, no fried foods, no milk products.

I would call back to the PCM office and ask if you can be put on a waiting list for a appointment. If they do not have one call back every couple of days. Explain that you need to get a appointment as soon as possible because you will be out of town in July and if you need surgery you would like to have in the states.

It could be your gall bladder.

I had surgery in June 2006. In May 2006 on Duke's message board, about 10-15 people started posting about having to go back after wls and having their gall bladder removed.

At my next visit, I asked my dr since I got worried. This was going to be my first surgery ever and I sure wasn't trying to come back. My ultrasound revealed I had gall stones so my dr had already planned to remove my gallbladder during the wls. She said that wls seems to aggravate existing gallstones. So my dr was a step ahead of me.

Hopefully you can get it resolved quickly to alleviate the pain.

When it rains, it pours, doesn't it?  What perfectly awful timing.  Please let us know how it all turns out for you.  You'll be in my thoughts!

I think a lot of WL patients have to have their gallbladder removed.  Good luck.

I agree with everyone else - it definitely could be your gall bladder. I had to have mine out a little less than 5 weeks after the RNY. Typically any surgery to the digestive system interrupts the normal digestive cycle, which can cause bile to stay in the gall bladder longer than normal, which in turn can cause stones or sludge. That, combined with rapid weight loss can cause a lot of people to have gall bladder problems post WLS. If you continue to have a lot of pain, go to the ER - that way you can get the ultrasound quicker and get treated.

up date on Me... so i finally caved and went to the ER last night.. ugh sat there for three hours before i got pulled back, had a jerkass for a doctor who wanted to tell me the pain i was having was one i was preggers, or two ovrain cyst. So he order and ultrasound of my stomach area.. oooh to much of his surprise it was my gall bladder... hummm.. i have two stones, and sludge in there...
He wanted to prep me for surgery last night, and i said i rather have dr.mac take it out.. i love dr.mac and so didn't not like this ER doc at all...
So i got to be stuck 6 times one bag of fluid and sent home...
so now i sit and wait for Dr.Mac's office to call me back to set up a time for surgery..
Just wanted to update, and thanks for the replies..
