Weight Loss "Side effects"
Kelly,
How old are your kids. Did you have your multiples or single first? My twins are 27 yr old identical boys and my single is a a girl that will be 15 in June. Wow, how time flies!

My twins were first. I had identical twin boys 5 years ago. We lost our Brandon when he was 15 months due to come complications of being premie and seizures. Our surviving son Jordan is doing well and going to kindergarden this summer. I had my singleton 2 years ago, but I tell you he is almost as big of a hand full as the twins. (well maybe not) Time does fly. It seems like yesterday when I was delivering them and in a blink he is in kindergarden.

Hi Kelly,
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. I lost my brother at 21 and mother said that it was the hardest thing that she ever endured. My boys were born at 32.5 weeks and believe it or not they weighed in at about 5 lbs each and measured in at 18 each. The Dr's thought that we had the wrong dates at first, then said no, they would have been about 9 lbs and 22 inches if they'd gone to term... Guess what? Sarah was 9 lbs and 23 inches long. Considering how long ago they were born and how early they were, they really came through unscathed. It was a little touch a go for a bit with Mike, but he pulled through just fine. They are both dyslexic, but so were two of my brothers and my dad, as is my daughter, so they doubt it's related to their prematurity. They have always been more prone to bronchial infections and Mike suffered fibrale seizures as a baby, but other than that they have been very healthy.
One of the things I wish I had done differently, is what you are doing... I wish that I'd had the surgery when they were young so that we would have had a more active relationship... I wonder how it would have been different. That said. I love them all desperately and like you am so grateful to have them all.
I look forward to meeting you sometime.

I have to say losing Brandon was the hardest thing I have ever been through. I still struggle sometimes but I try to remember there is a plan. And how lucky we were to be his parents. He was such a spirited sweet little boy. The nurses loved him and he had the most beautiful smile. They were born at 27 weeks, 2lbs 13 oz and 2 lbs 2 oz. (My water broke at 26 weeks..) We are really lucky. They really thought we were going to loose them both. I have to say 27 years ago 32 weeks was really early. I am glad your boys are doing well. It's tough starting life as a preemie. Now having a singleton that was born on time and at 8 lbs 11oz .. I know how hard it was for my early boys.
That is why I am so excited to do this now. I have had a lot of people, including doctors say to wait.. Keep trying diet and exercise. But I have watched my mom yo yo and that is what I have been doing as well. I just want to be healthy for them. And not be so over weight I can't run and play with them at the park. But don't get me wrong... i know two young boys are exhausting at any weight. It would be nice to be able to slide and swing..which with my size are not possible now.
I do hope I can make the next meet up. It will be nice to meet you.

Before I started gaining weight, when I was in my early twenties. I wore a size 7.5 shoe, now that I have gained over 100 lbs I wear a size 9, so I hope that my feet will get smaller as well as almost everything else!
Thank you to everyone who shares in these posts, it really helps me to know and understand more. Jackie

I don't even want to think about plastics yet....I have a long way to go and like you, I'm exercising like a demon to help that out.
I've yet to "throw up" from food, but I can really feel my limits! I did however, get up one morning and drink water too fast! Well right back it came!
Good luck to you! It's a good idea to arm yourself with all the information you can get before surgery. I did and it helped me out a lot with nerves.

I think I am most woried about my arms. I have always had really big arms... other big places will fit into spanks =)
I am so glad I asked this question. I do want to know as much as I can about what it's going to be like after.. although i know it's different for everyone.
Thanks.

2. I want plastics but probably won't be able to afford it so I will settle for just being healthier. No problem there.
3. I have thrown up. It is not like when I am sick. If I eat too fast or drink to fast, I feel like I am going to be sick. It happens really fast! Once I make my deposit (sorry) I feel fine. It is over. Not like when I have a stomach virus.
I hope I can avoid another surgery. I worry most about my arms but I also don't have "plastic surgery money". I am doing good to get WLS.
Thanks. I appreciate your responses. Congratulations on your weight loss.

I thought of some more side effects:
(Let's see if I can get the numbers in order this time. DUH!)
1) Constipation can be a problem, but that's not hard to remedy with plenty of water, benefiber, Milk of Magnesia, a cup of coffee, or medications. It hasn't been a big problem for me.
2) Shopping for clothes is fun!
3) Chairs are comfortable: movie theater and auditorium seats don't hurt anymore. (I haven't been on an airplane since my surgery though. I'm not sure I'm ready to "go there.")
4) I can breathe and tie my shoes at the same time!
5) I can breathe and put my socks on at the same time!
6) I can breathe and lean over to pick something off the floor at the same time!
7) Hot weather doesn't bother me as much
8) I like the house warmer than I used to. 69 degrees used to be comfortable, but now 73 is more comfortable. So, I'm gonna save a lot of money on air conditioning this summer!!
9) My husband says I am a happier person. I do feel more cheerful, more positive, and I have more confidence. When I'm with people I don't feel alienated anymore. I don't dread seeing old friends either. Heck, I may even go to my next high school reunion and I've never been to one.
