average weight loss question - RNY
You are sooooo right when you say that everyone is different. It depends on how much fluids you retain post op, how much weight you lost preop, how much weight you had to lose to start with... on and on. My high weight was 264. I was 248 when I joined the program at Duke. I was down to 233 on the day of surgery. I lost 1 lb a day for the first 10 days and then I didn't lose another lb for the next 10 days. I was sure that I had figured out a way to mess it up. I nearly drove myself to distraction getting off and on the scale. Finally, I figured out that I could get off and on the scale all I wanted, but I would just 'track' my weight on the anniversary day of my surgery so once a week I tracked my weight. That really helped because it allowed me to step back and see the bigger picture. I still weighed daily, but it didn't drive me as crazy. Now I still weigh daily, but that is to be sure that I never end up with ostrich syndrome again, where I have no clue what my weight is.
It's a little early for this to help much yet, but once you get to your one month anniversary, try going to www.thinnerself.com and use the 'chart weight and inches' feature. I'll bet you'll find it helpful and interesting. It will allow you to see how you are performing relative to others who match your demographics including your age, height, sex, weight at surgery and current weight.
