Coming off my meds

I went and saw my family doc yesterday for an almost 3 wk post op.  She took me off the blood pressure meds, cut my metformin in half and is considering stoppage of the Zocor next week pending lab results.  It's possible that the metormin will stop too if my A1C is 6 or lower.  My average daily blood sugars are low 90s and mid to high 80s.

THe whole reason for this surgery was to improve my health and come off of the meds.  It's ALREADY working!!!

I'm so excited!

Fantastic news, Michelle!  You are already well on your way to a happy, healthy new you!

We may be heading out your way to play Pisgah next Tuesday if things go the way we think they will for both Owen and Pisgah tomorrow.  I was thinking that may be the school district you teach in?

Yes Shauna, I teach in Haywood County.  I actually live about 2 miles from Pisgah.  Since they have always been my county rival ( I graduated from Tuscola), I'll wish you guys luck!

Are we talking softball or baseball?  I know the Pisgah softball team is #1 in the state, so if that's what it is, it's gonna be a tough game!

Michelle,  Thanks for the good luck wishes!  :)  We are talking softball and yes, Pisgah is a phenomenal team...they are 24-0 right now and Willis just pitched a perfect game this past Tuesday.  I know our girls are really going to have their work cut out for them if (when!) we make it to Pisgah next week.  Just have to get past E. Rutherford this evening!  Send them some good vibes around 5pm this evening, will ya?!  ;)  Thanks again!

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Like you, I did this to improve my health and while I don't want the excess weight or the limitations it put on my quality of life, I honestly would have done it even if I hadn't lost a pound because of the resolution of my diabetes and management of my hemochromotosis. Being slim and trim is just the icing on the cake...

Thanks guys!  Not sure if I shared this previously with everyone, but my mother passed away in 1998 to diabetes and heart disease.  She was 54 years old and in 19 years, I'll be that age.  That realization (along with a few others) is what convinced me to do something!  In 2007, I started being diagnosed with anything and everything and tried to diet and exercise it away!  That just didn't work, no matter what.

Having this surgery has truly been a Godsend for me!

Be careful with the blood pressure issue.  I have been on Diovan for blood pressure, but my regular doctor told me to stop it about 5 weeks ago because my blood pressure was dropping too low.  So, I stopped the Diovan and my blood pressure went way up.  I had to go back on the Diovan.  My blood pressure has stabilized again.  Eventually I will probably be able to back off the blood pressure meds but not yet.  So, check your blood pressure frequently to make sure you're okay.
