I am new here. Hello
I am a graduate student and hoping to have a rny. I am sure people start somewhat the same but how are people getting insurance to pay for this procedure? I work full time but my insurance at work only covers the lap band. I need the rny not the band. I have called the insurance company (med cost) and they state my workplace policy only covers the band. I am now tiring to get a individual  policy coverage from BC BS of NC. Any help out there??

I am not worried about  have the surgery. My mom had it and she did great! She is 5 years out and has keep the wight off, no more commodities.

Hoping to meet others.

I have Aetna and they cover lap band and RNY only.  But you do need to have BMI over 40 or over 35 with certain medical conditions to qualify.   You will see quite a few self pay folks on the forums also.

Best wishes with your new journey

I may be completely wrong, but my understanding is that individual policies do not cover weight-loss surgery.  Make sure you find that out 100% before you obtain one.  I would imagine you could call around for self-pay quotes.  A lot of people save thousands by going out of the country to have theirs done self-pay.  You may want to post on the other forums, if you haven't already.  Good luck!
