6 month check-up (being referred to Charlotte specialist)
My 6 month surgiversary isn’t until NEXT Thursday, but I went ahead and had that visit today along with my other non-WLS related visit @ Hickory Surgical with Dr. Cook.
As far as my WLS, I am down just over 42% of my excess body weight. I was hoping for 50%, but Dr. Cook told me that anything between 40-50% is great. Phew! Jock said that people who lose at the rate that I am losing tend to lose for a longer period of time. Everyone made me feel really good about my progress.
I am feeling GREAT. Finally smile when I see my reflection in the mirror instead of feeling like melting into a puddle of tears. I got a BIG compliment on my hair today, and I still haven’t colored it, so that made me feel good! The veg eating plan is helping me tremendously with my tummy/bowel issues…now to just get in enough protein without going over 1000 calories per day. I’ve been staying around 1200-1300, which is a little high this early in the game.
Regarding my other non-WLS-related issues, Dr. Cook is referring me to a specialist in Charlotte. After consulting with them, we will hopefully have a game-plan of which surgeries to perform, when, where, and by whom. I am still racing the clock with my $2,500 deductible resetting on July 1st. I am a bit nervous about having surgery in Charlotte, which is 2 hours from home. Will be so glad when we figure all of this out! Please keep your fingers crossed for me! Thank you!
We took 221 down to a Polk County HS softball game earlier this week and while we were on the road I wondered if we were anywhere near you. :) I don't think so, but I wondered anyhow.
Hopefully I will hear something tomorrow about an appointment in Charlotte and I will shoot you an email! {{{Big Hugs!!!}}}
You look GREAT in your pics...your success is astounding. :) I'm sure you are really enjoying life so much more with your family. How I wish I'd had this done when my children were younger.
The protein is super hard to get in while eating veg like I am again but I'm trying! Thank goodness for the occasional supplement.
The health issues I'm working out right now are completely unrelated to my RNY. :) I had an umbilicial hernia that I suspected before RNY and I should have said something about it but I didn't. Duh! I'm going to have that repaired by Dr. Cook in Hickory soon because I found out Friday that they won't do both surgeries at the same time for me in Charlotte. The other surgery that I need performed is the repair of an internal intussusception. I'd been calling it an internal rectal prolapse but intussusception is the correct term. I had it repaired once before during a vaginal hysterectomy, but it has come back. :( Trying to figure out of the Charlotte specialists can help me before my deductible resets July 1st. If not, I'm going to have to live with it for another year or so! Blah!
