Do you know what your 'ideal' body weight is? xpost
There is a lot of discussion about the percentage of excess body weight we might lose with any type of WLS. The average percentage of excess body weight lost with RNY, the most common of the WLS' is 60 to 80 percent. Generally, if you lose less than 50 percent or regain to a point that you are at 50 percent, you are no longer considered successful.
So... How, do we know how much we are 'supposed' weigh? Sometimes our Dr's will tell us what we should weigh, some don't. BMI tables are helpful, but they only tell us part of the story. In order to really know what are ideal body weight 'range' is, we need to also factor in our frame size. How many times have we thought we had a large frame? Some people actually do. I am just over the board from medium to large framed, but I use the medium frame weight guidelines for determining my weight range.
The following website link can help you to quantify what your 'ideal' body weight should be, so that you can calculate your percentage of excess body weight loss should be: http://www.healthcentral.com/diet-exercise/ideal-body-weight-3146-143.html
Please know that I'm not making any judgements about what YOU 'should' weigh. Your goal weight is between you and your Dr. You may decide that you want to be an 'average' weight, which may be different from a 'normal' weight, which may also be different that an 'ideal' weight. As long as you are healthy and able to live your life well, whatever weight you set as your goal is great!

Barb~~
Thanks for the website. I have always known that I had a large frame (as many of my family does). And when I calculated on this website it said what I thought I wanted to weigh not what my dr. wanted me to be at.
Always enjoy your posts; you have such a great insight into many issues!
And also know that I have you and your family in my thoughts and prayers as you deal with many of life's stressors. I don't post a lot but I read every day!
Hope you have a great day
If anyone speaks badly of you, live so that none believe it!
Hi Pam,
Thanks for your sweet note. I'm glad that you found the website helpful. As you get closer to goal, I think you'll get an even better idea of where you actually want to land.
Wishing you continued success.

According to this chart you gave the link to, Barbara, I am "medium framed" (fingers touch), and my ideal weight range is 142 - 156.2 lbs.
My goal, that I am hoping with all my heart to attain, is to get down to a "normal BMI" of 25.0, which would put me at 155 lbs. I want to get there and maintain for 2 years before undergoing cosmetic surgery. That could possibly take another 20 pounds off of me and then I will be at my surgeon's goal! lol
I tell ya though, I am already feeling and looking so "normal" and "average" at 220, anything below this is just going to be so wonderful. 199...180...etc. Holy moly! I can't even imagine! I'm just sticking to all of the rules, living a lifestyle I know I can live with permanantly, and letting my body do what it's going to do. I am happy, healthy, and feeling pretty optimistic about it all. Thanks for this discussion!
Hi Shauna,
You must be the same height as me. Even thought I just barely tip into the large frame area, I use the medium frame numbers as my guideline and I'm at the lower end that range.
I look forward to your continued success,
