Just a quick update. I made it thru surgery and came home yesterday around lunch time. My DH has been a life savior.  No major problems. Just trying to take as little of the pain liquid as needed....Now to get these liquids in seems to be the next item to tackle. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers!

Hi JoJo,

Welcome to the loser's bench!!! Be sure to sip, sip, sip and walk, walk, walk because it's so important to stay hydrated and to move around a bit to speed the healing and of course to prevent pulmonary embolisms after having surgery. If you are having any issues with residual gas from the surgery, walking will help that as well. If you can walk a bit every hour that you are up and awake you'll find your recovery will speed a long.

Remember that your new little pouch is very, very swollen, so you'll need to sip constantly in order to stay properly hydrated. Don't wait and use your 'sense' of thirst to help you now, because you won't be able to consume enough at one time to help with that. I'm sure that your medical team has given you guidelines to follow that will help you with this. I found that having an 8 ounce cup that had to be done every hour helped and I set the timer each time I filled it. If you are having trouble with getting it all in, sometimes using a timer set every 15 mins and being sure you are getting in 2 ounces between the 15 min beeps can be helpful...

Please know that this part of the journey, while the hardest, is also manageable... Come to the boards if you need some help and of course, be sure to contact your Dr's office. They are there to help you through these first few days, weeks and months.

So are we.

Enjoy the ride of your life!

Congratulations on making it to the bench!  Get your whip, er your little silver bell out, and beckon that DH for all he's worth.    I don't know what I'd have done without mine either.  Keep working on your liquids and do realize that they take a little time to master.  Don't hesitate to rely on your pain meds until you no longer need them.  Take good care and keep us posted on your progress...get ready to be amazed!

Thanks for the great advice and wishes. I will continue to keep everyone updated. I think I am going to try the timer idea. I think it will help me keep track of where I am with my water.

Glad to hear you're home and doing well.  I've been struggling with getting my liquids in too.  My brother, caretaker, sets his watch to go off every 15 min.  So, that helps!

I'm still swollen with the gas, but walking does help!

**Ticker shows weight loss since I started the program in December..not since surgery!
