The name is Jordan. I am 25 years old and ready to embark upon the journey of having RNY Gastric Bypass. I am seeing Dr. Paul Enochs in Cary, NC. I am almost up for insurance approval. I am scared, excited and worried all at the same time.

I hope this is a great experience for me.
Looking at the before and after pics on this site blows my mind that I may soon be one of those people.

I'm happily married with a very supportive family and circle of friends to help me through this new experience.

If anyone here has anything to share with me, or would like to give me tips on what I'm about to go through, I would greatly appreciate it.

Add me, and check out my Blog!

First let me say welcome.  Second, I love the name you've used!  You feelings of excitement and worried are normal.  My surgery date is the 19th of this month.  I think I was more worried in the beginning of the process, but the more I've read, studied and know I have a good surgeon the more excited I get.  Your young, sounds like you have a good family/friend support group and you'll find you'll meet lots of supportive people here.

Yes, yes, yes, Debbi!  What I wouldn't do to go back and recapture my life at 25...can't believe I waited until I was 40 to do this!

Jordan, Welcome!  Congratulations on your decision and good luck on your journey!  Sounds like you are setting yourself up for success.  Hang on to those who support you and educate yourself as much as possible during your wait for your surgery.  We'll be here to help you in any way we can!  :)  Good luck!

Hi Jordan,

Welcome to the forum and get ready for the ride of your life! If I have a single regret regarding this journey, it's that I didn't do it at your age. It's so normal to be scared, excited and worried. I'd be worried about you if you weren't. Just keep researching and asking questions. Remember to follow your surgeon's program re: dietary guidelines... That is probably the single greatest variable from one program to another, so when someone talks about stage one this or that, they can be talking apples and you can be talking oranges. That said, OH has been and is still and invaluable resource.

Like you, I was transfixed by the before and after photos. I still look them over in awe sometimes. Right now, my dear husband is in the midst of his own metamorphosis... he had his surgery in December and has lost about 60 lbs., but has lost about 150 total... The changes are absolutely astounding. It's just about how we look though. It's also about the enormous changes in our quality of life. I have a HUGE yard and yesterday I mowed about 1/3 of that monster with a push mower and I was moving a pretty good clip. I only stopped because the sun when down. There is no way I could have done that 2 years ago.

Later this month, I'll meet with my surgeon for my 2 year follow up. I hope that he will be pleased with my progress, but I know that I am. I have lost about 120 lbs total and 90 since surgery. I'm up from my low weight, but happy with where it is and plan to try to keep it here.

Wishing you every success,

Barbara

Hey Jordan,

I think Charlene and I share a brain sometimes....a lot of what she posts is exactly what I would have said...LOL

I was more nervous during all the classes, meetings, waiting for insurance, etc.  My surgery is tomorrow (5/4) and I'm not nervous at all...I'm soooo excited.  The day I've waited for is FINALLY here.

My advice: If you think you'll need help with your "brain" (dealing with emotions, fears, insecurities...etc) do it!  You're helping your body by having the WLS, but your brain is a more powerful organ and may sabotage what your body is doing.   Personally, I've been seeing a psychologist (who specializes in WLS patients) twice a month to deal with why I ate like I did, because my one fear is that months or years down the road, my brain will go back to it's old ways of thinking and try to comfort itself with food!

Sorry, for rambling on!  This was one piece of advice a WLS friend of mine shared and it's already making a HUGE difference in my thinking about food.

**Ticker shows weight loss since I started the program in December..not since surgery!

You guys are awesome and such an inspiration. I love hearing things from each and every one of you so that I know what to look for. The thing about having it at this age is I am just scared to death lol. I am getting better though and really researching and asking questions so I am fully prepared for the change.

Thanks to everyone that complimented my screen name. My husband calls me Princess So I added the plump part. Bad thing is if I lose a ton of weight I'll have to change my name to not so chunky princess or anything else, anyone have any ideas?

Anyways I look forward to keeping in touch with each and every one of you. Please let me know if you guys go to or know of any support groups, I'm pretty sure I'll have to make a drive but it'll be worth it.

I've started an exercise regimen so far of just walking everyday. Today me and my family whi*****luded my husband, son, dog, mom, step-dad, and brother went on a 3 mile nature walk on a trail in our town. It was really really a great workout and awesome scenery. It's the first time my dog has been to a river or a pond and it was such an adventure for her as well. By the time we got home a few minutes ago we are all pooped. My little boy is laying down watching spongebob, the hubby is couching it and the poor dog is asleep as can be. The cat is mad because the dog won't pay any attention to her lol

You guys all have a wonderful Sunday Night!
