I got my approval from the insurance company on Saturday. Cigna took one week to approve me. What happens next? Do I have to start a pre surgery diet and if so what diet do I follow??? Should I start taking vitamins?? Thanks for the help.

what you have to do is wait for your date and the doctor office will give you what diet you should do. I have been approved for my surgery about two weeks but I have not gotten a date yet. Two weeks before the surgery date they have you do the Akins diet.

I had to do a liquid diet two weeks before my surgery.  Every doctor is different so check with yours.

Every dr office is different. I have Blue Cross Blue Shields and the day I met with the Dr. and he said it was okay for me to have surgery I got a possible surgery date. Because my office was a center of surgery of excellence I was automatically approved.

As far as the pre op diet every dr is different just like cracklemom said. Some dr.s feel that with the liquid diet you are shrinking your liver and you are also preparing your body for weight loss surgery.  I did 7 days of liquid slim fast, v8 juice, chicken broth, and sugar free popscicles. We were also allowed jello but I hate jello. I lost 10 days pre op.

If you haven't heard from the office in a few days call and speak to the surgery scheduler and she will get you going in the right direction hopefully.

Good Luck and Congratulations.

Hey,
You have the same doctor as I do.  I love Dr. Harris.  Anyway my surgery date is May 19th at New Hanover, where I'm sure yours will be also.  Anyway, I was told by Dr. Harris's office to do the following:  2 weeks before surgery, no more than 60 grams of carbs and 24 hours before clear liquids only.  Since you got your approval, the schedular at Dr. Harris office will call you and set a surgery date and will go over the pre-op diet.  They'll also send you all the info in the mail as well.  Keep in touch!
