Rice "Products" post-RNY (cakes, noodles, crackers, cereal, etc.)?
I just finished reading through my old notes like I mentioned in my other post. My question is, have any of you experimented with rice products post-RNY? A lot of the replacement items on a gluten-free diet are rice-based. I know I've eaten rice cakes with success, but I did have a very grainy cereal recently that hurt and I just mentally attributed it to, "Oh, there must've been rice in that." without actually checking. So, how about experience with rice noodles, rice crackers, cream of rice cereal, puffed rice cereal, etc.? Thanks so much!
Since surgery I cannot eat boiled rice. It sticks. I can eat cream of rice and rice cakes (chewed well) as well as the Quaker rice snacks. It is one of those things that you have to try a little bit and see what happens. I can do some soups that have a little and I mean a little rice in them. I cannot eat spaghetti or macaroni and cheese. It just gums up the works if you know what I mean. Surprisingly I can eat low carb tortilla wraps. I usally make a chicken or egg salad wrap and cut it in half. I may eat one half today and the other tomorrow.
I eat rice products daily. I try to stick to a gluten free diet as much as possible. I eat rice crackers, puffed rice, rice noodles, and other rice products and have no problems. I just got a recipe for a gluten free cake made with rice flour. They said that I could buy low glycemic sugar and it wont make me dump. One of the ladies at my church brought me brownies made with low glycemic sugar and we experimented, I ate one. It ws the first sweets I have had since surgery. She made them special for me gluten free and the special sugar. I was so pleased that it didn't cause me to dump. I was very excited!
Well I am not a good source of info on this topic...LOL Because I eat regular ol' rice without any problem!! I can eat ANYTHING with no problem!! EXCEPT for Captain Crunch Cereal (used to be my fave of all time AND I cannot eat Sugar free or No Sugar Added Ice Cream without feeling very ill) But rice, potatoes, all that crap..LOL My little ol' tank is glad to see them and never complains!!!
Don't be afraid to try new things!!! What works for one may not work for another EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT and vice versa!!! Just start with a little at a time!!
Good LUck to ya :)

I love rice but only eat avery small amount. I am afraid of the swelling which I have heard happens. I do eat chinese rice crackers and other products made with rice flour with no problem. The reasons which I understand for rny people not to eat rice is the swelling of the rice grains and it sticking, blocking and causing discomfort. The other thing is.... protein is so very important to us and rice is a starch. Other things which goo me up are large pasta, and most breads unless I toast them. I generally just stay away from bread and starches. They waste space in my pouch.
