10 Week (+ 1 day) Update

Yesterday I posted about my progress on the DS forum, but I wanted to update all my NC friends here as well.  Here's the edited version of what I had to say (it got really long).

Ten weeks ago on this day, I hopped up on a surgical table that was destined to change my life forever.  I traveled from NC to Marietta, GA, to have surgery with Dr. Dennis Smith after fighting BCBSNC for 7 long months through 2 appeals.  It was the very best thing I have ever done for myself!  Granted, I hated (with a passion) the liquid and pureed food stage, but I have not once thrown up, and have very scarcely been nauseous.  Oh, I've had my moments - it wasn't always a smooth ride - but it was nothing I couldn't deal with by taking my meds like I should.  From day 1, I was able to get in all my required protein and water and vitamins.  Sometimes those chewable vits made me gag, but I did them because I had to until I could swallow pills.  Once I got home, I got on Vitalady's vitamin plan.  We'll see how well I have done at my 3 mo. labs in another 2 weeks.

Some of you may remember that I posted about being at the gym on post-op Day 4.  I remember because alot of you thought I was slightly nuts.  I'll say that I resemble that remark!  LOL  But the good news is that I have been able to see real progress at the gym and I go 4 times a week like clockwork.  I am able to see muscles and now I can also differentiate between that and the fat I still have.  I have bat wings forming, but that's ok with me.  It means I'm losing weight and it's not anything a scalpel and several thousand dollars can't fix.

I jumped on the scale this morning and I've lost 52 pounds since surgery and a total of 63 pounds since my highest weight last December.  I've measured twice since surgery and have lost a total of 30.8 inches thus far.  Clothing sizes are so weird, but I can wear down to an 18 in some things, mainly tops, and am in a 20 mostly in pants/shorts.  That's down from a tight 24/comfy 26 at surgery.  I actually have a neck now and I love it when people ask me if I've changed my hair.  Cracks me up!  I'm hopeful I will sprout a set of collarbones some time soon - I'll know I've made real progress when I do.

I also posted that I found out the day I went back to work after surgery that I was losing my job.  Job ended on March 13th and I did not land one of the internal positions that I competed for.  But last Friday I landed a new job and it is doing something I've wanted to do for a couple of years now.  I'm still taking classes in this field, and this is not my dream job, BUT it's my foot in the door and will get me to where I want to be!  I start work April 27th!

I hope to get some new pictures soon and will update my profile then.  Until then, I am enjoying wearing smaller sizes.  Thanks to all the wonderful friends I've made here and see each month at our Meetup.  This has truly been a wonderful journey thus far.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hey Angela.  We met at the "Beck Group" tuesday night.  I don't know what you looked like "before" but you looked healthy and happy at dinner.  You will be a new person soon.  Continued success on your journey  and remember to "think thin"!

Hey Pam,

It was so good to meet you Tuesday night.  I have some real doosies of pictures and I need to put a small album together to carry with me like Barb does.  Believe me, in the face, it's HUGE difference!

I'm excited that you'll be doing the Beck Group with us.  I think this will really help change my thinking long term.  You look like you're doing well, too, and I look forward to sharing this ride with you since we're very close in surgery date.

See you soon!

Hey Chica!  Yep, I agree that it does make it easier with him here.  My angel, Gina, from the DS forum said she thinks he's the best thing since sliced bread.  I told her I agreed, but for God's sake not to tell him!  LOL

Yep, see you soon!

GREAT to read your post, Angela!  Isn't post-WLS life grand?!

Kudos to you for becoming a gym rat.  I'm with you about needing the scalpel and $$$ at some point in time, but I'd like to convince myself to wait the 2 years post-goal-weight to acheive optimal results.  Not sure how long I can stare at these bat wings though, ya know?!  lol

I also hear you about the clothing sizes.  I'm in anything from a loose 18 to a loose 22, wearing the smaller size mostly on top and the larger mostly on bottom, though I did get a size 18 stretch jeans that are big on me.  I don't remember being in that small of a size at this weight before, do you?

Too cute changing your hair!  You made me just reach up and feel for collarbones...and I think I may have some sprouting!  ;)  WOOT!

Huge congrats on the new job!  Hope you are working your dream job soon!

Can't wait to see the pics.  Continue to enjoy the journey!  {{{Hugs!!!}}}
