I am soooooooooo happy.  I have finished all my "things to dooo for surgery clearance" and stared my pre-op diet.   Tomorrow I get my heart doctor's green or red light........all else, including insurance has been approved.....best I am aware.

I could use some help for things to buy and stock my pantry with for the first 3 months out......Any suggestions?  My doctor is: Dr. Kenneth Mitchell, Pinehurst, NC............

I look forward to your sisterly and brotherly help through this new journey in my life!!

We have quite a few patients from Dr. Mitchell's office and they have had wonderful results. I'm sure that you will too. Try not to load up on too much because your tastes may well change post op. You might want to have some good broths on hand and then some things to season them with such as garlic, onion, worchestershire, ginger, lite soy, sage, margoram, thyme, etc... A lot of times folks try to handle the broth directly out of the can or box and don't find it palatable, but if you Dr it a bit, it's much better.

Remember not to have anything too hot or cold immediately post op. Warm is fine, really hot or cold might cause some spasms and that could be uncomfortable.

See about getting some SF popcicles to give you something to 'eat' while you are in the liquid phase of the diet and make sure that whatever you get is on your Dr's plan. Probably one of the biggest variables from one practice to another is the dietary regimen, so if you ask what you can have 'online' you may get a wide range of responses that may or may not fit with your Dr's program. Just be sure that whatever you do, does fit with their program.

First welcome and good luck and will hope you get your green light.  I know before my surgery I will have a meeting with the NUT to go over what I will be able to eat/ drink on the 2 week liquid diet before surgery and after and they will have a list of approved items.

Since there is liquid/ puree/ soft there will be lot of things but you will need to focus on 1 phase at a time or at least that is what I am planning.

Again Best Wishes

Hi Auntie B,
Welcome to the NC forum!!! I hope you are green lights all the way!!! as far as stocking your pantry, my Doctor gave me a packet and it had detailed info on what I could and could not eat in the different stages of the diet. I would check with your surgeon on what he wants you to have. The first two weeks for me were torture LOL my doctor has a different idea on what a liquid diet is..... I thought I was going to starve to death.... and no it was not head hunger. I stocked my pantry with Sugar Free pudding, Sugar free yogurt, chicken and beef broth, Sugar Free popsicles, Protein powders of different flavors (see if you can get a small sample before blowing your money on the big containers to make sure you like them) Cottage Cheese, peanut butter and cream soups that is still what I eat today... it is a battle with me on what I can tolerate on a day to day basis. BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!!
