 hey you guys,
i had to share this and get some insight. So my husband as you all know is a marine.
We are currently preparing for our millionth deployment, this time Afgainistan for quite some time.
Well he was approached by his gunny, who told him hey you have a choice to make. My husband confused was like what sir? Gunny once again repeated what he said you have a choice to make, you can go on deployment with us, or you can accept your orders to Okinawa Japan.
Where the heck did these orders come from and magic orders fairy or something. WOW
so my husband calls me, and i start to try and figure out, do we keep the house do we sale it, what about our dog roxy, all the normal stuff. We have been to Oki once before and loved it.
Then it hit me, my surgery. I'm not quite three months out and we would be leaving in Sept. My one year mark is Jan 9th. How does this all work?
Will it affect treatment for me, can a doctor there on base line up with Dr,Mac and come to an understanding that i need certain blood test and vitimans, or do i keep Dr Mac filled in?
oh boy lots of things i just don't know about..
i'm excited and i know this is a wonder experince because like i said we love Oki, yet i worry about the what if's.
Just wanted to share our wonderful news yet i'm a little FREAKED out right now.
I know one thing i will always have my OH NC family....

No advice but wanted to congratulate you on the exciting news!  I would LOVE Okinawa too.  :)  Hope you are able to figure out a good health plan...I'm sure it's all going to work out!

Just remember to hand carry a complete copy of ALL of your medical records. But you know that already. I am sure you can get follow up care in Japan. If not then plan to fly back to see your doc here at the appropriate check up times. Have fun in Japan (okinawa) while you are healthy enough to really do the good stuff! I'm jealous.

OMG THAT'S FREAKING AWESOME!!!  I've never been to japan but i absolutely ADORE japanese culture-it's my favorite!!  i'm soooo freaking jealous of you right now!  you for sure can still seek counsel on your surgery in japan, (for one) more advanced than we are and (two) gastric bypass isn't just US, it's world wide.  CONGRATS!  YAY! :)

Annmarie,

First off Congratulations on your move to Oki, I know you'll be happier than if he were in Afganistan for sure...  As for your WLS follow up.  I also had Dr MacD as my WLS Doctor and life saver... (had to plug that in there...lol)  Anyway, 6 weeks after my WLS I moved to San Diego, I know it's not Oki but it was way too far for me to come for follow ups and whatnot.  I talked with Dr. MacD and he referred me to another doctor in San Diego who kept him updated on my progress.  I was in San Diego for almost 3 years and did wonderfully.  Basically I just followed Dr MacD's guideline and had bloodwork done at the new doctor's.  So I'm sure that's what he'll have you do.  When I came back to NC I went right back to Dr MacD and he was surprized and happy with my loss..  Anyway, just talk with him...  Congratulations again and I hope you'll still have internet access so you can chat with us and keep us informed.

Take care!!!

Sherylr
