Adhesions

Hello everyone!!  My surgery date is April 27th and I have a question.  I am having Lap RNY but am nervous about my doc possibly having to do an open procedure instead.  I have adhesions(hope I'm spelling this right) from an old gall bladder surgery back in '93.  It was a bad bad surgery that has left me a huge scar.  I'm having occasional pain in that area in which I spoke with the surgeon about.  My question:  I'm wondering if the surgeon hopefully & prayerfully can do this bypass as a lap and if so, will he have to do an additional opening?  Has anyone else faced this??

I faced the same situation when I had my RNY.  I had open gall bladder surgery back in 1985.  I have a very large scar also.  My surgeon was able to get past the adhesions of that surgery and perform the Lap RNY.  At the time of surgery, my surgeon also informed me there was a chance for open RNY if he had a problem but that he would do his very best to do the Lap.  I have the same small openings as everyone else who has had Lap RNY.

I will be praying that your surgeon will be successful in perfoming the Lap RNY.

The same thing happened to me.  My Dr. was able to preform it by lap, but it did take him 5 hours.  I also have the same incissions as everyone else.  Your Dr. will attempt the Lap first and will only do an open as a last resort.  He will not know until you are on the table.
