chicken broth you can stand

Sunday I have to go back to the clear liquid diet in preparation for hopefully having surgery on Tuesday again.  I was miserable last weekend doing it because I couldn't stand anything bu****er and sugar free jello.  I really want to find a chicken broth I can live on, too.  No time to order anything, so I am looking for brands found all over at grocery stores.  What good broths have you all found before?

Try making your own chicken broth or ordering some from the best chinese restaurant around... Just order a wonton soup, but take the wontons out YUM. Try something like french onion soup, but strain out the onions, croutons and cheese ... MMMMMmmm. You can use a good store bought, low-sodium chicken broth and flavor it with sauted carrots, onion, celery and garlic, then strain them out. You can also try flavoring garlic and ginger and green onions.... Or I've used thyme, rosemary and parsley. I've done beef broths with onions, garlic, carrots, celery and worschestershire. I guess what I'm saying is that you can flavor them as though you were creating a normal soup, but strain out the herbs and vegis. It will make a BIG difference.

When I had to be on liquids and I wanted broth, the canned broth got really old after a day or two. Instead, I purchased some chicken noodle soup (any brand) and strained the noodles and drank the broth. One night I got real inventive and saved the noodles for two days, put them in a fry pan with soysauce and did a quick fry for hubby. You really could get inventive with this, but I hated wasting.  I found the broth far more satisfying than the canned and it almost tasted like "real food" lol.

Good luck!

I put some chicken bullion in my broth and that made all the difference.

I used Chunky chicken noodle soup and strained out the noodles... it was good... But you can also try the Rachel Ray broths, chicken, beef, vege... they are also good... much more flavor that alot of the others.

Hi Sneezy,
I am so sorry about your delay with surgery that really sucks.
As far as chicken broth goes Swansen has just started putting out chicken stock.
Personally I would think the stock would be more flavorable than broth.
Your in for a suprize after surgery and a few months out what the surprize will be or at least it is for me is that so many soups, broths most everything I eat I will swear it has got to be the best thing I ever ate LOL
Flavor is the key and even tho we dont eat much at one time a little bit of something with great flavor is WONDERFUL.

Thank you guys so much!  Once again, as a way of extra supporting me, hubby is doing the clear liquids with me and was dreading it as much as I.  I have some chicken with skin, fat, all that junk I never buy chicken with so I can try to make a soup just without any noodles and then drain the broth off of it for tomorrow.  I made his day by telling him the tips about buying the regular soups and taking their broth, too.  I just wish I could find cheesecloth.  Guessing I will have no choice but to go off post to look for it since noplace on post is carrying it right now...something about it being seasonal.
I am planning to do the chicken with some veggies, a can of broth I usually begin with for my chicken noodle that I usually make in the crockpot, paprika, garlic powder, and not sure what all other things I will add.  Keep your fingers crossed that tis turns out good :-)

I don't know, possibly could.  I have never tried egg drop soup, what is it?  I made home made soup and drained it all.  I am drinking it, but I still don't like it.  I am hoping I like the broth from the chicken noodle soups tomorrow much better.
