Hey Everyone,
Wow, I haven’t posted or anything in so long. Sorry guys. I haven’t been up to much. I had major knee surgery at the end of January, so I have been stuck in the house for a while. I started driving again a few weeks ago, but I am still on crutches. I had knock knee in my right knee pretty bad, so they fixed that. I have 8 screws, artificial bone and a metal plate in my leg now.. lol.. Well, I am kinda at a standstill with my weight loss, I guess because I can’t do much. I really want to be able to get out and walk again! Wednesday night I was having some stomach pain but I had a migraine, so I didn’t think much of it. Thursday I ate some breakfast around 7 and then some chex mix around 11:00, but by 12:30 I was doubled over in pain. I was so nauseous and all I could do was curl up in a ball. I would try to get up, and I felt like I was going to be sick, but nothing ever came out. I was like that for an hour and I didn’t know what to do, no one was home. So I finally decided to call the doctor and they told me to come in asap, so they worked me in on Thursday. I ended up having to drive myself because I couldn’t get a hold of anyone. So, Dr. Cook wasn’t there, but Lynn was. They determined thought I had a stomach ulcer. They gave me some “Kapidex” to take and scheduled me for an upper endoscopy for Monday. I guess to see how bad it is, and to make sure it was an ulcer. The meds seems to ease the pain off yesterday, but today all I have done is laid in bed. I have hurt so badly and anytime I would get out of bed or even just sit up it would worsen and I would feel nauseous. So, I am hoping to get over this quick… I feel horrible. Anyone have any ideas how to ease off the pain or nausea? Not sure how common this is with RNY patients.

I hope everyone is doing well, sorry this wasn’t the happiest post…
I have missed talking to everyone..

glad to see you posting again. Hate that you have a possible ulcer. Atleast you are in good hands with Dr. Cook and the staff. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

Hi Jennifer,

I'm sorry to hear that you are so uncomfortable and if your discomfort is continuing, I hope you will call your Dr's office again. Ulcers are not 'common', but do occur and are normally treatable and managable with diet and medication. Have you been on something like 'Prilosec?' Depending on the practice, it's often given to patients during the first 3 to 12 months and may be given for an extended period of time. It's available in a generic form so that your insurance Rx should be able to pick up most of the cost.

My daughter has multiple problems with her knees/legs and had the surgery that you have had about 1-1/2 ago. I know it's tough now, but it will get better and I think that you will find that you will have a much improved ability to get around once you have healed and rehab'd.

Re: your weight. If you haven't been logging your intake, consider doing that now. When we are home... and hurting, we can tend to 'graze' a bit more than we are aware. Logging may help you to 'see' if you are grazing and need to make a few adjustments. Once we get well past a year as you are, we have to be much more careful about what we eat and how much.

Take care and please let us know how you are doing.

Hi Jennifer - I have missed hearing from you!  I kne you were having surgery on your knee but I guess the time got a way with me.

I hate that you might have an ulcer flaring up.  As Tamara said you will be in good hands with Dr. Cook.  Let us know what happens after Monday's appt.

Jennifer!  I'm so glad I didn't miss seeing your post!  Love the new avatar...you look great!

Remember what I've said to you before...true friends don't keep track of how much they keep in touch or how much time has lapsed since they last talked...we just take right back up like no time has passed.  :)  No apologies needed!

I am glad to hear that you had your surgery and are healing from that.  It will be so nice when you can get off those crutches.  Is this the last surgery you will need for your knees?

Holy moly about the pain you've been having.  An ulcer?  :(  That's awful.  We must've missed one another at that Thursday appointment.  I've been the past 2 Thursdays...the first I saw Lynn, the last I saw Dr. Cook...and I'm supposed to head back down again this Thursday.  How did your upper endoscopy turn out?  Has the medication helped any at all?

Take good care of yourself and keep us posted.  I sincerely hope you feel 100% better soon!  {{{Hugs!!!}}}
