Check those BMI's
Good Morning Gang!!!!! Hope everyone is enjoying a little sunshine before the rainy weekend rolls in.
Last night I was thinking about WLS things in general and the subject of just how much we change kept coming to the forefront. We talk about the scales everyday and when we hit a stall we look to the measurements to see change. Have you checked your BMI lately?
When I started looking into surgery I weighed it at 305. For my 5'5" frame that's a BMI of 50.7 and that's in the Super Morbidly obese category. This morning my BMI is now 34.9 and just plain Obese. When I lose 30 more lbs. I'll be just Overweight. (Plus I'll weigh what I did in Elementary school). How cool is that?
So tell me - let me see some digits. Where are you in this BMI journey?

I am in a bit of a stall right now losing weight wise. I check my measurements and BMI probably once a month to see where I am at.
I started out at 306 on my 5'7" frame and am now 235. So I started at 47.9 and am now 36.8. Which is outstanding!!! I look forward to just being overweight and not obese!!!
Thanks for the post!
If anyone speaks badly of you, live so that none believe it!
The BMI is a really important number for everyone to know since it is now the gold standard that doctors use to determine overall health. I started out at 260 @ 5'2" which was a BMI of 47.5 and now I'm hanging around 139 with a BMI of 25.4. I've met my goal of losing 120 pounds but have not set a new goal of losing another 5 pounds so I will be in the normal BMI range. It's much harder to lose that last 5 pounds gang!
You are doing great, keep up the hard work! Alice

Thanks for posting this today, since it definitely one of the things I needed to hear and be aware of. I stepped on the scale today and was disappointed not to see 248 - although I'm off by about a half a pound. I have been taking measurements, too, but to look at BMI really does show how far we've all come. So even though I'm slightly disappointed in my weight drop, looking at BMI change is really huge!
I'm 5'3". My highest weight was 305 which put my at BMI of 54. At surgery, my BMI was down to 52.2 and as of today it's down to 44.2. I'd love for it to already be below 40, but I know in time it will come.
I'm on my way, too. And thank God for that!

BTW, I am 5ft nuttin' and will be 60 in August. It is really HARD for us short, old chicks to lose weight!!!
Starting BMI: 46.1 (5'6" and 285.4 lbs.)
Current BMI: 37.3 (lowest weight this week of 231.2)
That's -54.2 lbs. and -44 inches! Yippee!
Now if I could figure out why my scale said 233.0 this morning, I'd be a much happier camper. Urgh, scales.
