If you are talking about protein for shakes I like unjury's vanilla and chocolate, chicken soup ****asionally) and I use the unflavored for mixing in homemade soups and smoothies and such. I got the recommendation from someone on the boards when I started my preop diet. I didn't start vitamins until after my VSG.

I got the unjury online.

Best of luck!

i didn' start my vitamins until I was off the supplement  meals.  Then my Dr recommends a B12, Caltrate and a good multiple vitamin.  Thing is they have to be chewable or liquid.

Caltrate is calcium carbonate which is not bioavailable in an RNY gut.  Post-RNY, we really need calcium citrate.

Hi There.
I've been taking multi vits for years, but the ones I take were too big for immediatly post op. I went to the Vitamine Shoppe and bought some expensive powdered vitamins. I tried them mixed with a protein shake, and it tasted like poison! I threw the whole thing out. I went to Wal-Mart today and bough a bottle of Centrum Chewable Adult Vitamins. They have all the ingredients my program at Duke recomends, and they taste good.
As for the shakes, I use EAS Premium Protein suppliments. They are not too thick or too sweet, and have 27 grams of protein in 6oz.. I also bought Isopure Creamy Vanilla, and it has 50 grams per 8 oz., but haven't tried it yet. I'll keep you posted on that one.
Good Luck!

My doc has had me on Optisource chewable vitamins (4x daily). Plus now I take an added calcium.

I found something new this weekend - One-A-Day makes a drink mix (like Crystal light) that you add to water. I saw it in the Woman's multivitamin in a berry flavor and the Energy Advantage as a lemon-lime flavor. I've just mixed up the lemon-lime in my morning water bottle and I must say - it's not bad at all. I'm going to try and get Andrea's opinion on them. Look for her answers - she knows her vitamins.

Iris,
How do the Optisource taste?

To be honest - they remind me of an orange baby aspirin. Nothing to over the top. I had tried the chewable orange centrums prior to surgery - YUCK!!!!

HI, My favorite protien supplement is AnyWhey from GNC.  It is virtually tasteless and can be used hot or cold.  If you are using it in a hot drink make sure that the drink is not too hot to drink before you add the protien whey or it will curdle and be nasty!!  For Vitamins I take a Centrum Chewable (berry flavor) and a calcium citrate with Vit D.

Good luck,
