Weight loss stalls

It seems that the scales stay stuck more than they've moved in the past 7 wks since wls.  The past two weeks I've been floating within the same 3 lbs.  Is there anything I can do to help it along?  Maybe I have unreal expectations???

I'm not sure if your high weight is also your surgery weight, but if it is, you are going GANG BUSTERS! Even if it isn't I must say that I felt as though I was losing very slowly. It looks like our weights are similar and that would put you in what is often called the 'lightweight' category... who'd have thought that, huh?! At any rate, while we actually are losing at a decent rate, it doesn't much feel like it.

I think that my 'average' weight loss when I was about at the point you are was about 3 lbs a week. I hit two stalls in my first 6 to 8 weeks and thought I was doomed to failure. As you can see, that's not the case. So, stay with your surgeons program. Be sure that you are getting in enough, protien and calories. My program wanted us to get in an average of 900 calories a day. One of the things I noticed was that when I stalled and checked my daily intake, it often fell in the 400 to 500 calorie range, not enough to keep those ole' fires burning. Apparently, our bodies literally downshift our metabolisms if we aren't getting enough and it moves into something called starvation mode where is tries like heck to concerve all of those precious fat reserves we are working so very hard to rid ourselves of...

Stay the course, it will come off and to be honest, as long as you are getting in the requisite protien, calories and hydration, there isn't much you can do. Even exercise won't make a signficant difference, but you should be exercising. It will help keep your metabolism firing, and more than that, it will help you make the life-style changes necessary in the long run to help you keep off that weight you are working so hard to get rid of now.

Wishing you all the best,

Actually my high weight was when I started with Dr. Chapman.  My surgery weight was 239 and I'm now down around 215.

I'm 5'6" tall, but it sounds to me like our stats are very similar and you are about where I was... Take heart and stay with the plan. You are doing fine!

I hear you on the weight loss stall. I had not lost any weight in about 3 weeks and all of the sudden I dropped 3 pounds. I am happy with this.

I have lost a total of 24 pounds with lap band surgery.

Like Barbara said make sure you are getting your protein in and getting the right calories in.

I have started logging again and realized I was getting used to having the surgery and was eating a little more than I should.

Yesterday I also realized I was not getting enough water in also.

Write down everything you are eating and see if how you are eating. If you are not exercising then this might help also.

Stalls are stalls. Sometimes no matter what we do we are just in a stall. Stay with your dietician/clinics rules and the SWOOSH Fairy will come soon and you will see the weight coming off again.

The same thing happened to me. I was going nuts. Then things started to pick up but only 2 to 3 lbs a week. I never did lose more than that until last week when I lost 9 lbs. Now since doing that I think I can expect another stall. I think I am losing slowly but it is going in the right direction. Drink, walk, eat and get your protein in. You will be fine.

It's totally normal, don't get discouraged.  The same thing happened to me.  Just keep following the program and now that the weather is getting better, try to get out and walk.  I can only echo Barb's comments; keep the faith and the weight will come off.  Your body just wants to try to hang on to the weight but you'll just have to show it who's boss!

Stalls suck!!! The tape measure will show progress even when the scales don't. Keep your chin up - the stall won't last forever - it'll just seem that way.

Thanks all for the encouragement!!!  That's why I love OH!  I haven't been journaling but probably should start.  I'm so scared of getting sick that I think I undereat more than anything.  I am not getting the amount of water in.  I try but am still only getting 40 oz on a good day.  It hurts to drink in the morning.  Dr. said something about the small bowel contracting and that it would get better.  It hasn't.  A friend asked me about protein earlier.  I don't think I'm getting the protein in and probably should chart for that!  Thanks again!
