3 month visit

My surgery date was 12/22. Today I went to the 3 month visit. A bit early but close enough. It takes me 1.5 hours to get there. I feel let down that I only get to see the nurse. I have not seen my doctor since surgery. Is this normal? I have no clue. I lost 47 pounds so far and another 20 pre-op. The nurse tells me I should have lost 50 to 55lbs by now. Okay so I am off by 3 lbs. It isn't even really 3 months yet. jeez. Then she asks me if I am working out. I tell her I go to the gym 4 to 5 times a week. I get a verbal good but her face says "sure you do". Then she asks me about how many calories I am taking in. I tell her about 800. She says "I imagine it is higher than you think. probably more like 1200." What is up with this woman. I said calmly, I am pretty sure I am closer to 800. I keep tab most days. I am paying to hear these things. What is wrong with me?

At Duke, you see your MD on your 3wk followup, but after that you see the RNP. I'm sure this varies from practice to practice though.

Re: attitude. That's another thing. You might have noticed that I just posted about Ben's progress. He had his surgery 12/11 and you two have very similar weight loss patterns. I know that he has been 'good.' His RNP, Dietician and the Psych all said that his weight loss was great. He was disappointed because he had it in his head that he would lose 60 lbs by the time he got to 3 months. They told him that that he had lost 40 percent of his excess weight and that statistically they normally see about a 30 percent loss. I don't know what you BMI is/was and what percentage of excess weight you have lost, but if it's 30 percent or more, I'd happy with that. You can go to www.thinnerself.com and plug your information into it. It was created by a computer geek that loves statitistics and will match your weight loss pattern to others that match your demographics and then tell you what your projected loss will be based on  your performance to date. I found that to be very helpful and comforting.

Wishing you continued success,

Barbara

Thanks Barbara. I will try that website. I know I have been doing my best. I set goals for the gym because I know I have control over that. I try not to set ones for my weight loss because I feel I am consistant but I know my weight loss is not. My body does what it wants. At least with the gym and my workouts I am in control. It is easier and I am more successful that way.

 HI Sandra
don't get down on yourself... my surgery date was in Jan and i have lost about the same amount, and my Dr. Was so thrilled to see my progress.. It really up to our bodies on how fast or slow we will loose the weight.. Don't let some crabby ass nurse tell you otherwise. Just remember you did this to make you healthier, not for anyone else.. So if your happy with your progress then cheers to you and congrats...
Chin up... things will be ok...
take care

Sandra,

I had my 3 month today and I saw the PA. She was nice and the Nut was nice, but the psych was a little harsh. I stated that I had tried Chinese a couple of times and gotten sick. I had chicken and brocolli and I thought that was ok. She told everyone in my group that I was a rebel and not to listen to me. I got mad and said well I think I have done great. I have lost 60 pounds in 3 months and the Nut said you are suppose to be down 30% of your excess weight and I am at 43%. So put that in your pipe and smoke it. You are doing great and so am I. What does she want me to eat, tofu?? I didnt get to the weight I did by eating tofu....Keep up the great work.

I ALWAYS see Dr. Mann. I have never been shuffled off to a nurse EVER. Dr. Mann says there is NO NUMBER you should be hitting. He says your body will lose at the speed it wants to go and you should never be shooting for a specific pound amount. I have never been told that I was *off* or about my calories. The only thing he asks is if I am doing my push ups LOLOLOL he is all about strength training NOTHING is wrong with you. When have you ever lost that amount of weight in that short of time before your RNY?? you are doing GREAT.. her attitude SUCKS. Keep up the good work Sandra!!

I do read where people have lost so much more than I have at this point and it does get a bit aggrivating. But, I know I am doing what I should be doing to the best of my ability. So, I am going to keep on doing what I can and ignore her.
