Oscar the Pouch Rules

Guess what? After 7 months you'd think I knew the simple rules of eating following RNY. Well, I obviously don't and Oscar the Pouch was extremely grouchy with me last night.  I know to eat slowly and chew, chew, chew. Simple enough.

Last night I made chicken chow mein for dinner. It was so good. I know that I ate way to fast - but it was only a few bites - maybe a 1/3 cup at most. It was also the first time I'd had rice since surgery.  Oh I may never eat Chow Mein again in my life. As we all know when the Pouch overthrows the rest of the body - it can take a while and the folks you're eating dinner with can get curious as to where you've gone. I kept praying that David nor his roommate would come look for me. I'm not that lucky. They both came knocking on the door. Not at a good moment either.TMI*** but I was gagging and couldn't talk - not that I wanted to talk mind you. David was convinced that I was dying and together these 2 came up with the plan to take the door off the hinges. I got myself together enough to tell them I was OK and I'd be out in a little while.

I think I scared the hell out of David. He calmed down a little once I unlocked the bathroom door. I felt like a little kid being scolded for locking the door. It was the first episode I'd had since we've been dating.

My point in telling you all this is twofold: 1st - no matter how far out you are the pouch still rules. 2nd- If you're around folks who aren't familiar with the joys of ruling pouches - you may want to clue them in incase you suddenly dissapear to the restroom.

I know what you mean, been there twice, don't want to do it again. Glad your feeling better. I guess they were thinking of us when they said "eyes bigger than your stomach" . My brain hasn't caught up completely. I have finally learned the "signal" to stop, but sometimes its late in arriving. I measure at home, but its difficult at work, so "eyeballing with my big eyeballs" can get me in trouble.

Hi Iris I do know so well what you are talking about.
The other night when Dalton & Rose came for dinner Lee said Dalton got this look on his face like I get sometimes and Lee knew what was going on.
Everything turned out well.

okay, now I'm scared!! Maybe I can remember this but I'm sure I will learn from my own mistakes when that time comes!

No need to be scared. Just remember that the pouch makes the rules. There are definetly some times that are just simply trial and error.

The pouch makes the rules as soon as you break them. You do have to break them from time to time to learn what your pouch's rules actually are unfortunately LOL!

Ladies, no offense here, but pouches are like the women in my life.  Just when I think I have Roo figured out, he goes and changes his mind on me.  I can eat something with no issues and then days later when trying the same item again, he gets pissed off and causes me grief.
