I need some ideas/suggestions
Hi Ladies (and any gentlemen reading this),
I am 6 1/2 weeks post op and I've lost 38 1/2 pounds. However, I have been at a stall for over 4 weeks. So, I thought it's about time I start writing down what I eat/drink to see what the problem might be. So here is what I have written for today:
Protein Shake: 120 calories, 2g of fat, 3g of carbs, 23g of protein
Flavored Water: 5 calories, 0 fat, 0 carbs, 0 protein
Orange Aid: 5 calories, 0 fat, 0 carbs, 0 protein
Flounder (about 2 oz.): 60 calories, 3g of fat, 0 carbs, 8g of protein
4 small shrimp: 70 calories, 0 fat, 0 carbs, 12g of protein
Protein Shake: 120 calories, 2g of fat, 3g of carbs, 23g of protein
So here's my totals for the day: 380 calories
7 g. of fat
7 g. of carbs
66 g. of protein
Clearly I'm not getting enough calories in during the day. I'm wondering if perhaps my weight loss has stalled due to the fact that I may be in starvation mode. I have not had physical or head hunger since surgery. You know the saying, "Don't live to eat, but eat to live." Well, I'm discovering what that truly means. If anyone has any suggestions or ideas or can give me some examples of a typical day for you as far as what you eat, I would be truly grateful. I need some ideas. Thanks for any help any of you can give me. Oh, and one more thing, I haven't had any food that I've eaten that has disagreed with me. I also haven't "cheated" at all or eaten anything bad for me.

Definetly not enough calories.
You probable should be within 600 to 800 calories minimum and max 1,000 calories.
You could do 1 1/2 protien shake or even double the shakes. Can you start adding vegetables??
What about dinner. you need to eat dinner. Even if its 2 -3 oz protien and 2 oz vegetables.
I know when you just have surgery you don't feel like eating and the protien shakes are easy but you probable need to eat dinner.
My surgeon/nutritionist only wants you to 1 shake a day and they prefer that RNY and band patients eat solid food at each meal. This is because the food stays with us longer.

Joseph,
I had RNY on the same day and can understand the frustration. All the reduction in food intake and you aren't seeing the scales go down. You may correct about the stall, but I would recommend talking to your Dr. about it. Glad to hear you haven't had other problems either. The only other thing I could think of is excercise.
Good luck in getting back to loosing the #'s.

Sounds like you're doing really well. I've had three small stalls in the 11 weeks since my surgery. I'm on a stall right now that's lasted a whole week. My nut says the way to break a stall is to change what you're doing: change your menu, do different exercises, change your routine. I'm fairly certain I'm stalled because I've had to completely stop all activity because the pain in my arthritic hip has gotten so bad. After I get a steroid injection in my hip tomorrow I'll hopefully be able to do more. Right now the pain is killing me! So, change your exercise routine. If you're walking, ride a bike or swim. If you can, you may want to get in a few more calories by snacking on a cheese stick. My favorite is Sargento's Colby-Jack. How about making yourself some sugar-free Jello pudding? Then after it's almost set, add a half scoop of protein powder, stir well, and let it set up again. Good stuff! I too have been very lucky that nothing has disagreed with me. I can eat anything on my prescribed diet with no problem. I never get nauseous and I've never thrown up either. In fact, other than getting full on small meals I feel completely normal. **knock on wood**
