Hi everyone. I arrived home from the hospital yesterday. I had my RNY surgery on Tuesday. I am doing full liquids and have been able to keep everything down with no nausea....so far. My husband (who was a wonderful nurse at the hospital) has turned into my trainer!! We go for a 20-30 minute walk every three hours. What I really want is a nap. I am still sore, but I am trying not to take pain meds because they completely knock me out. I just wanted to thank everyone for their kind words when I was having my "freak out" moment right before the surgery. So far I am doing well.. I am having sorness in my lower legs and ankles (like a really bad stiffness). It goes away when I start to walk, but after being seated for a while it is back again. I also have had gas (burping) after drinking my full liquids...is this normal?
Hi Amy,
Welcome to the loser's bench. I'm glad to hear that all went so well. Keep sipping and walking. It really will go a long way towards helping you to recover quickly and well. The gas is a very normal side effect of being literally pumped full of gas for the surgery. It will get better soon. It's also normal to have some burping after drinking and eating early on. It will get better and is not an issue for me anymore.
Wishing you all the best,
Barbara
