What is fage and where do you get it? We live in a small town. The only grocery stores in town are Food Lion and Piggly Wiggly. I see so many people on here talking about eating fage and I wanted to know more about it. Thanks.

It's Greek yogurt.  My local Foodlion carries it in the "organic" foods section, although it's not organic.  Greek yogurt is simply strained yogurt.  You could actually make your own Greek-style yogurt.  Pour some plain yogurt into a coffee filter and let the water drain out of it overnight in the fridge.  Presto, you have Greek-style yogurt.  Because the water has been strained out it's concentrated, therefore higher in protein than regular yogurt.

Thanks for the info. So it's in a refrigerated, organic section? Do you eat it plain or do you add something to it or add it to something else you're making? Thanks for your help.

It is refrigerated and my store carries it in the normal section. We also have it at the Lowes, Harris Teeter and Kroger. It's great with sugar free jelly or jam or with fresh fruit added to it. You can also add it to other foods. Check 'Eggfaces' blog for more ideas on using it.

Yep, my Foodlion has a new section just for organic stuff and there's a special area for refridgerated organic stuff there.  I add sugar-free (sweetened with Splenda) jam with my Greek yogurt.  But you can also use it in place of sour cream in recipes too.  Soon I'm allowed to add carbs to my meals and I'm thinking of adding a few teaspoons of Kashi granola or some other kind of good, no-sugar, higher protein granola to my yogurt.  Heck, I'd be thrilled to sprinkle a spoonful of my old favorite, Rice Krispies, to my Greek yogurt.

Okay, so of course Food Lion & Piggly Wiggly don't sell it here. So I thought I'd try to follow your instructions about making it myself. Here's the thing I bought Food Lion brand non fat plain yogurt. Is that the correct thing? It has 19g of carbs, 17g of sugars, and 13 g of protein. They didn't have anything that said sugar free or no sugar added. Am I wasting my time by draining it overnight or is this what you were talking about. Please HELP!!

I bought SF cherry preserves and SF strawberry preserves to add to the yogurt. Is the Ka****hat ya'll put in yours in the cereal aisle? I looked for that and also for granola. The man said they only sell granola bars, not granola. I didn't even bother to ask about the Kashi. I would love to have something crunchy to add to it. Any suggestions (besides suggesting that I drive out of town to a grocery store that might actually carry stuff like this). I guess I could do that once a week, but it's over an hour drive to any major city. I hate to drive all that way to find out they don't carry it either.

Wow, you must really live in the "sticks."  That Food Lion brand of plain yogurt doens't sound like the right kind.  It sounds like it has way too many carbs.  That "plain" yogurt must be sweetened.  I looked on my Fage Greek yogurt container for comparison.  It has 9 grams carbs, 9 grams sugars, 20 grams protein.  The only two ingredients are skim milk and live, active yogurt cultures.  Check the ingredients on your Food Lion brand.  I'm guessing you'll find some kind of sugar and probably some kind of gelatin too.  If my Food Lion carries Greek yogurt, I bet yours will carry it for you if you ask them to get it for you.  It never hurts to ask.

The only grocery store that's close to me is Food Lion, too.  They have a "no sugar added" Food Lion yogurt but in my store it only comes in strawberry, strawberry-banana, and vanilla. It has 14 carbs, 8 sugars, and 6 protein.  All the other kinds I've looked at have way to much sugar.  I bought Fage the last time I went to see my doctor because so many people here have talked so highly of it.  I wasn't impressed with the first try.  The texture is good.  But it's so sour.  I bought some sugar-free jelly and that helps.  I want to try the cocoa and splenda that someone suggested.

I'm a Fage junkie and I seem to have everyone around me eating it by the bucketfuls. My favorite is to eat it for breakfast with:

** a packet (or 2) of splenda mixed in and a handful of dry granola cereal.
** a spoonful of splenda brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon stirred in (tastes like Cinnamon bun icing)
** sugar free smuckers preserves mixed in
** used as sour cream in anything (chili, dips, baked potatoes or what have you)

Use your imagination - it's really good stuff.
