Update on my chest pain episode

I went to my doctor today and my EKG was inconclusive...I had blood work immediately after the appt.  They also scheduled me for a Nuclear Stress Test (apparently I have to have an IV-YUK)and an ultrasound of my abd. (my father was just diagnosied with 3 aortic aneurysms.  I was sent home with a prescription of nitroglycerin and the "magic mini pill" (prescription says 2mg of valium) to relieve some stress (husband lost job and moved to Texas, me and the kids stayed behind until June).  Also told to increase my nexium to two pills per day.  No real answers, but the doctor is leaning more toward an esophageal spasm than a heart attack.
Thanks for all your support...All of you scared the daylights out of me...but I'm thankful you did.

I am so glad everything looks good. Just follow up with the stress test and hopefully that will be negative as well. Sorry to scare you, but I'm glad you went.
Stress can do terrible things. Take care of yourself and keep us posted.

Glad things look good so far. Don't worry about the thalium stress test. I've had one...no biggie.

The worst part, besides the IV, is them trying to kill you on the treadmill. LOL They usually ask you to tell them about 1 minute before you can't go on. I told them and it seemed like an eternity before they actually told me I could stop. Once your heart rate is raised to the level needed, they will inject the IV with the thalium.

Second part of the test you'll be lying down while an xray sorta machine scans over you back and forth. It's been quite a while since mine but that's what I can remember. I worried for nothing.

Hope it all goes well for you. Let us know!

PS - Hope Dad's doing ok too. ;O)

I had an esophogeal spasm, and yes, it hurts like a heart attack, unfortunately it got me a cardiac cath, so a nuclear stress test is definitely the lesser of the evils. Like you, I had a nasty family history, so they were very thourough and cautious as it sounds like they are being with you.

Good luck, take your comfortable running shoes for the treadmill and your meds as directed and best wishes for all negative results!!!!
