could i be allergic?
Ok, so I am almost two months out, well not quite two months on the 9th of March i will be.
I'm going on long doing fine since i got really ill and put in the hospital, then about two weeks ago i started having hives, just around my neck, and from my rist up to my elbows. No where else on my body. So of course i break out all the anti itch creams, stop the lotion i've been using. Nothing helped. So i finally went to the Doctor last friday, my skin is tore up, i'm tired of the itching, the only thing that has really changed in my life was my surgery and i started to drink Whey protien mixed in my soy milk. I have had soy milk since my son was about a year old.
So the doctor assumes that i'm allergice to Whey, WHAT isn't that something i have to have after surgery,
I go for allegery testing on the 3rd of March and that is one they are going to test for.
The thing is why didn't my liquid beydrol take care of it, if it is an allergic reaction to something.
What happens if it comes out that i am allergic to Whey protiens. Whats left for me to take in?
What mess i tell you.

I have NEVER had Whey Protein
If you gave it to me, i probably wouldn't know what to do with it...LOL
You should get along just fine without it!!! We were told to get all of our protein from food sources!! Meat, cheese, nuts, seafood, etc, that started at 3 weeks post op and each week we added a little something new and by 6 weeks could eat everything meat wise, including beef!! But i know every surgeon is different!!
SOOO sorry to hear about the hives..YUCK!!
It was great to see you today :)
Hope you get better soon & maybe you will get some good answers here!!

If you don't want to take whey protein drinks anymore, there are soy ones if you want protein from shakes. The funny thing is it is only from around your neck and wrist to elbows..... what were you wearing? Short sleeve? Any digging around plants (indoor or out?) How about washing of dishes? Just thinking of a contact allergy since it is so localized.....the neck could have been from after contact on your arms to your neck. Dig around in any filing cabinets? There are mites that live off of paper..my sis had a rash from that years ago and took forever to figure out that one!
Benedryl isn't that great, it is good, but how much one takes (plus you aren't absorbing either as much as "normal") you may have needed a larger dose, or small dosages over extended time.....
Anyhow, let us know what happens when you see the doc! Hang in there!
