Making Progress

Hi All!  I'm making some progress toward my goal of having surgery.  I've been to 1 of 2 of my surgeon's required nutritionist appts and went to the physiologist for my appt and testing.  Hopefully in 2 weeks, I'll have all my requirements in and my records can go to my insurance company.  Does anyone here have United Health Care?

I don't have United Health but I wanted to say Congratulations and Good Luck!! Looks like you're moving right along on your pre-op requirements.

I'm sure some policies are different, but did you experience any problems with obtaining approval from them?  Also, do you recall how how long it took for them to approve once your paperwork was submitted?  I suppose I'm getting anxious, everything else seems to have fallen into place and I'm hoping this will as well.
Thanks

Hi Charlene,

We didn't have any issues with them. If you check my profile in the mar through may 07 areas, I think you'll see the details of my insurance submission/approval process. I didn't take 2 months, but I don't recall exactly when/where it took place. I do recall that they had about 15 business days to respond and make their determination. It took about a week and half for it to 'chug' through their system. Once it was on the desk of the manager *****viewed it and made the determination it only took about a day or so. It didn't take as long for my husbands, but I don't recall the time line for his. I have recently heard of folks getting a response within a few days. I found them easy to work with.

Wishing you all the best,

That's nice to hear - I now have United Healthcare as well, and my surgeon's office doesn't hold out hope that they'll approve, as the surgeon's office says they still consider it investigational.  Can I ask what states you are both from?  I'm in North Carolina.  I really would rather have the surgery here, but I'll get a loan and go to Mexico if I have to.

I'm worried that my surgeon's office won't work hard with me to get me approved.  I'm going to have to pay them $400 for teh initial consults, as well as a $50 copay for the two NUT appointments, the psychological, etc.  I hate the thought of spending all that money just to be denied by insurance - but your posts give me hope :)

Ah wait - I get it.  You had the RNY.  I'm asking for the Vertical Sleeve.

I'm on the NC forum LOL - I was on the VSG forum earlier and thought I was in the same place when I posted.  OY.  sorry.

I'm back to not holding out a lot of hope that UHC will approve VSG ;)  But I'm gonna give it the old college try.
