I have had a migrane going on 5 days.  The only thing that gets rid of it is Aleve.  I have taken Tylenol and it is not helping!  I am trying to get rid of it w/out going to the dr. I am pretty sure we are not suppose to take ibuprofen unless we take something with it to coat our stomach.  Does anyone know??  Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

Suzanne,

Call your surgeon because they know what you can and cannot take. You might ask them if you would be a candidate for Imitrex ro Treximet from a gastro perspective. I'd also check to see if something like Loratab might be a possiblity to deal with the immediate nauseating pain. I used to get them all the time and remember how awful they used to be... Menapause does have it's benefits... In the meantime, try those suggestions. I really wouldn't try any NSAIDs if I were you, I've heard of incredibly nasty results with just a single dose.

Suzanne....
I have migraine's also,,,,I just now got put on meds for them. Up untill then, when I had one I would have to go to my PHP and get a shot of Toridol in the hip and it was gone within the day. Like Barb said,  don't take Ibuprofen. One friends advice said to apply ice packs directly to your head. Let us know what the Dr. says......hang in there......

Hi Suzanne,
I take fiorocet. It is an old migrane medicine, no NSAIDs and no nasty side effects.
Ask your doc about it. It works like a charm for me.

When I have one last 5 days, I go and get an intramuscular shot of phenegren and narcotic (stadol, toradol, etc.)  and it generally knocks it out.

Also, the sumatriptans (imitrex, zomig) are fine, but stay away from treximet (imitrex plus an Nsaid)

I used Imitrex for mine and I know that it comes in shot form.  Mine got to be less and less often and now I haven't had one for 5 +/- years.  Hope never to have one again.  Hope your doctor gives you some help.  Ice packs did help me also.
