finally, a kid noticed!
I'm a music teacher, as many of you know. I teach over 470 kids, K-5, at an elementary school. I've been dieting since August, had my surgery in December, and have lost 92 lbs total as of today. The teachers and staff at school have been complimenting my progress for months! But not one single child at my school has noted it until today. A first grader's mom told me her child said, "Miss Harley is skinny." I roared with laughter. I'm hardly "skinny" since I still have a lot left to lose, but, hey, I'll take any compliment I can get. I've been wondering when the children might notice I look different. Maybe it's because I'm still wearing my same clothes and they're so baggy no one can tell how much of me there is.

Isn't it just great. I love my students saying something about my weight loss the most. My former students (the one's from last year when I had my surgery) still comment. One day in afterschool I was walking laps while the kids were playing. I was on the back side when the director called for the kids to come in. I only had half a lap left so I started running. I heard kids yelling "Go Skinny Minnie". Yep it was some of those former students. You just got to love it.
You know, in as much as there's nothing quite as striking as the raw honesty of a child, I also think that to an extent, children don't necessarily notice 'little' things like losing 50 or 60 lbs. and while some can be incredibly rude, I don't know that most would know quite how to bring up the fact that the 'did' notice you had lost a lot of weight.
That said, I'm sure that the comment your student made did make your day and it won't be the last time one of them notices AND tells you about it.
Enjoy!

I teach middle school and was formally known as the FWB (fat white b--ch). Now when the kids are feeling their oats I am know as the DSAT (Damn skinny art teacher). You got to love them when they come up with these jewels. I have my biggest laugh when I am escorting them back to class and they tell me to "slow down, you walk too fast".
