Hello all,

I posted to this forum quite sometime ago. The process of getting to surgery has been a slow one for me. Regardless,...Hello!

I have a surgery date scheduled for March 12th. I am having the VSG Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy surgery in Asheville. (I can't figure out how to update my profile to say VSG).

I start my pre-op diet next week and I am looking for suggestions as to what kind of protein you have enjoyed and where to buy it. I would like to get some sample sizes too.  Any help would be appreciated.

I will be around more often, now that it is looking like this might actually happen!

Thanks in advance

Hi there and congratulations on the surgery date. I got a variety package of proteins from Bariatric Eating. Try googling them and it should come right up. They have a link from the OH site and I think it's on the main forum page. After that I got my protein shake mixes from the local GNC store.

Hope this helps - post often so we can get to know you.

Congrats on your upcoming surgery!  That's great!

Since I get most of my vitamins from Vitalady.com, I also looked at protein samples.  She has a great selection of smaple packs that you can get and she carries several brands.  I personally like Champion Nutrition, but for me, Optimum Nutrition 100% Whey has been great since surgery.  I tried Vitamin Shoppe's house brand in Banana Cream after surgery and it blowed me and gave me tremendous gas and poops.  Bummer, since I liked it so before surgery.  Also, Unjury protein is good IMO, and their website has a sampler pack you can get too.  I'd suggest trying that before you settle on any one kind.

Good Luck!  Let us hear from you once you're safely through surgery.  Feel free to ask as many questions as you like - we're here to help!

Hi Kala,

It sounds like you already got some great advise for getting protien samples. I know that my husband, who just had his surgery in Dec., was surprised that he didn't like the protien shakes he was able to tolerate before. The protien he did best with was Isopure and for him it was the texture that was the issue. He had a hard time getting in the volume with the shakes, but was able to do so with the Isopure because it isn't so viscous.

I look forward to getting to know you.

Thanks for all the info! What I take from this is don't buy much of any one type! It's interesting to me how much your tolerance and taste can change. Good to know, I don't want to be stuck with a lot of protein mixes I can't use. It isn't exactly cheap!

I look forward to getting to know you all.

Have a great day!
