What was the time frames of being out of work, with the Lapband and RNY?  My job is not strenuous but I do have to travel.  Not extremley long distances.

Also Thank you for the responses I have recieved.  This is great.

I had RNY and was only out 1 week.  Went for my 3 week check up today and a few were still  not back to work.. so I guess it depends on how you are feeling!!!

Hi Amy,

It varies a great deal from person to person. I think that generally the Drs will give you 3 to 4 weeks off work, but many are back to work much sooner than that. I think that the recovery might be a little shorter for LapBanders, but many RNY folks are back in the saddle within a week or two as well. I would take the time that you need to recover... Even though you might just have some tiny incisions, you still had surgery and need to recover.

Amy - I was banded and stayed out of work for a week, however, I felt well enough to return in less time.  But in nursing you never know if you will have to pull someone up in the bed or push the wheelchair or stretcher to x-ray.  And you do need to be careful with lifting/pulling/pushing until cleared by the doc.

My surgery was lap procedure and there were 5 small incisions - my doc uses the glue so you are not uncomfortable as with staples or even sutures.

Hope you are getting your questions answered.

Amy,  I had Lapband and took a week off but I also could have gone back to work after a couple of days.  I actually went to the hospital at 5:45 am, into surgery at 7:45 am and was back home by 3:30 pm feeling great!

I had rny and was back to work in a week. I did have a short week due to the new year holiday though. I was tired and would take a nap when I go home from work for about 20 minutes. I felt good but I still needed more rest than I had before.
