A little OT, but...
With all the talk of WLS and divorce, I thought I'd share something that my wife and I discovered recently. I'll preface this by saying that I am: A: NOT a "holy roller" church goer. I believe in God, I am a church member, but I'm not what I was/could be/maybe should be B: NOT a Kirk Cameron fan. Ok, with that being said:
The law enforcement community (at least where I live and work) is FULL of infidelity. Add that to the mix of losing 120lbs (me) and it a recipe not only for temptation, but for suspicion from my wife which made/makes me furious. After hearing about the movie "Fireproof" from a couple of different coworkers, I decided to rent it last night and take a look. I strongly recommend ALL married couples (especially WLS'ers) take a look at this. Christian or not, it will do you good. The dialog/writing/acting could be better but the struggle/argument/dramatic scenes are so incredibly realistic and hit so close to home (at least with me) I found myself sitting there with my mouth open. "I've done that...many times" I told the wife.
Long story short, the movie is about a young couple. He's a fireman, she's an administrator at a hospital. They have grown apart due, in part, to stresses at work and other things that I won't divluge in case you want to take a look yourself. They remind me alot of my wife and I, the CRAZY work schedule (overnights, weekends, long hours), the big house with bigger house payment, the family stresses etc. Before they decide to divorce his father talks him into going through what is called a 40-day "love test" of sorts in an effort to save the marriage. What results is a real eye opener to both of them. I'm NOT a "chick flick" movie goer AT ALL and was almost incredulous when a MALE coworker told me I HAD TO see it. He was right. If you haven't seen it, take a look. It has really made me take a step back and appreciate what I have. Thank God for revealing this to me. Sometimes we need a "smack in the face" to get us back to reality. I have been given a good, virtuous woman and have totally thrown her needs by the wayside while I persue what I thought was good for me and my career. I've been obesessed with my waist size, my BMI, the numbers on the scale, my credentials at work, my employees, impressing the brass on the job, the house, the truck, and anything else I can put in front of her all the while ignoring her and her imput in our marriage. I have been a jerk. A pompus a$$hole obsessed with my new "self" and ignoring the greatest gift I've ever been given, her. Oh my God, it's like the sun has come up after a long dark night.
Take a look if you have or are having maritial issues...or even if you're not.
Thanks for listening
Jason

Hi Jason,
A lot of churches in the community are having a "date night" showing Fireproof and having a nice steak dinner. I also will be either buying or renting the movie. I hate to cry in public.
If it open up a person eyes to his/her spouses needs and wants then we all need see it
Thanks
Sharon
By the way I'm just one county over from you. Hertford Co. and I too am in law enforcement communications

Jason, You know you're one of my favorite people ever and this post just drives home part of the reason why. So glad you have the self awareness to enable this epiphany to happen. Misti is one lucky lady! Can't wait to watch this movie with Allen. We've been married 22+ years and our hearts still go pitter-patter for one another!
