Update on Ginny...from Ginny

Wanted to let you all know that I am home and doing as well as can be expected, I guess.  I came home Sunday afternoon with the JP (drain tube) which has not been the most pleasant thing but hopefully it will come out tomorrow.  My pain has been easing off more and more each day.  I have only had one dose of pain med today.  Will probably take some before bed.

Having trouble getting in the water.  It's not comfortable drinking but it doesn't affect me with my shakes.  Feels like there's a funnel that all of the water is trying to get through at one time.  And I'm taking little sips.  Will that change?

Meredith, the emotion**** yesterday when my sister left and have been here all day today.  I'm so ready for my protein shakes that I ordered online and found out they won't be here until tomorrow.  On a lighter note, dh is cooking corn muffins to go with their supper and they smell yummy!!!

I tried a sugar-free popsicle today and that was really nice.  A little different from what I was having.

Anyone have any encouraging words or helpful hints, I could use them right now.

Thanks, everyone!!!
Ginny

Ginny, the first two weeks were the hardest for me. Not because I was in pain or anything but because I was so tired of liquids and wanted food. Not a lot mind you but at least a taste. I had trouble with water. It felt like it was getting stuck. Crystal Light saved my life. Good luck and hang in there.

Hey Ginny,

I came home last Friday.  I'm doing ok.  Keeping the liquids down.  When I do sip my liquids I guess it does feel like it's going through a funnel, however that's better.  Sometimes I'm not even sipping slow!!!!!  I forget.  The pain has gotten better every day.  Do I still want food?  YES!!!!  I'm looking forward to the pureed part of all of this.  I wasn't suppose to weight, but I did, and I'm losing a pound a day.  That's the awesome part.  The sugar free kool aid is good.  Hope things keep improving for you.

You know what the good news  is?????

We are now on the losers bench!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Just think of how long we wanted to say that.

Best to you and keep in touch

Beng emotional and moody was probably the hardest part for my husband to deal with as I recovered.  This too shall pass.  Give Ron a big hug whenever he helps with anything.  I know it's hard for the spouse.

As I'm now almost 8 weeks post-op I have noticed that my energy level has gotten a lot better during the last 2 weeks.  During this fist few weeks go with the flow.  When you feel tired, rest.

Hey Ginny, glad to hear you're doing well.  Don't expect too much too soon.  Water was hard for me too and using crystal lite or SF hawaiian punch made it so much easier to get it in.  One thing I did that helped with the optisource was I mixed it with 1% milk.  that stuff was so sweet and the milk really helped cut that sweetness down.  I mixed 1 oz of milk to 1 oz of the optisource.

Sorry I didn't get to see you in the hospital.  It's a bummer when folks get stuck in the recovery area overnight but it does happen when the hospital gets really full.  Let me know when you are coming to see Dr. C in clinic and maybe I can get down there and see  you.

I didn't have a JP drain with my RNY but I did after my cancer surgery in May and yeah, it was aggravating.

Each day will get better but just remember to take it slow and rest when you need it.

Let me know if you need anything...  Alice

When you're up to it, hope you can come to the support group meetings.

HI Ginny,

Getting anything down my throat at first was difficult. You're so swollen in there that it feels like nothing's going down. Even water was difficult, at first, but also the most important thing.
Just keep doing what you're doing. It does get easier.
Best of luck to you. You have so much to look forward to.

Good Morning - it should get a little easier every day - hang in there. SF Popsicles were absolutely heaven sent as far as I was concerned. Keep sipping as best you can. Tiny sips.

Keep us informed.

So glad you have gotten home. Sip, sip sip. I love chicken broth and vegetable broth.

I hope you get to feeling better.
