Hello All.. I will be relocating to Raleigh just weeks after having weight loss surgery. Does anyone know how it will be for me to find a Dr. For Post op follow up in the area? I am moving from CT? I'm really nervous about it all. But I've done allllll of my Pre Op Requirements in CT and Am waiting approval. Should I just have Surgery In NC? will they accept me?

I always knew there was a skinny person hiding inside of me..

Hi Raven,

You're going to love NC. Why don't you call a local WLS Center and talk to them about it. I don't see why they wouldn't accept you if you get them all the info they need. Duke is a Center of Excellence which some insurance companies require. I don't know about others. The number at Duke is 919-470-7000.

Good Luck!

Vini

Hi Raven,

There are several choices here in Raleigh. The only 'Center of Excellence' in the area is the Duke WLS Center. There are a variety of things that go into making a practice a COE, but one of the big issues is how comprehensive their overall care is, the other major component to a COE is the volume or number of patients that they have dealt with. Since you have already had your surgery, I imagine it would be the level of follow up support that would concern you the most. I would want to know how many dieticians, psych, support groups they have available to you. I'd also want to know what their follow regimen is. My husband just had his surgery through Duke and they have had a major overhaul of their system since I had mine done just 20 months ago. Since he got through the approval process and surgery, he has had a very good experience.

No I haven't had surgery yet, I didn't know if i should do it in CT or wait to get to Raleigh so I can have all my pre op and post op done at one place.

Hi Raven,
I would think it would be best for you to have everything done at one place.
If you have any test that has been done as part of the pre surgery stuff make sure you have copies of that and fax numbers ect.
