Who's had surgery in the last month???? How's it going??
You know, I'm so glad I had it. I've not been nauseous, some pain but well managed. But, why do I feel hungry. I'm a diabetic so I'm thinking I'm used to my blood sugars being higher and now they are so normal I'm not used to it. I'm on a liquid diet until next Wednesday. I eat strained soups, drink protein and water. I'm making sure I stay hygrated.
How are you feeling? Are any of you having any cravings or hunger pains? Just asking.
Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi Deborah,
I had RNY on 1/14/09. I am on pureed foods. I have not had any feeling of being hungry or had any cravings. I actually haven't had any appetite whatsoever. I actually have to force myself to eat something. I do feel thirsty a lot, but have trouble getting in all my water and protein. Today was the first day I actually started to feel better, which is interesting because just yesterday I posted a vent that I had been holding in since I had surgery. I had actually been feeling kind of down in the dumps, but my DH just keeps reminding me that each day will get better and it actually is getting better. Today is the first day that I didn't feel quesy or nauseous. I'm just ready to feel like myself again, but I'm finally starting to believe that that will happen. Prior to today I was having my doubts. I think as much as I prepared mentally ahead of time, nothing really prepares you for how you will actually feel after the fact. I think everyone is different and everyone's physical and emotional journey are different. Best wishes to you on your new life!!

Hi Deborah... I'm so glad you wrote in. I had surgery 1/21/2009, have hungar pains especially when I smell food, am also Diabetic, but my sugars are not what I call normal. They are staying in the 150-160 range which I think is too high. My doc says as long as under 250 not to worry. But, I am concerned. I thought they would be in the 100 range like they were before my surgery (and on medication of course). I am off the meds, but wonder if this is normal. What are yours? Would love to hear from another diabetic!!!

Hi Deborah,
I had a lap DS last Wed. - 1/28/09. I'm still here in GA, but will be coming home on Thursday. I am SOOOO ready to come home to NC. All in all, I feel pretty good. Had one bout of diarrhea, but I've dealt with that and it's much better. I actually have had some pain, too, but it's managable. I thought I was nauseous one day, but I really think it was just my guts rumbling, and Maalox has been my friend. They gave it to me in the hospital and it was a lifesaver. The worst part is the chewable vitamins. I can't wait to get home so I can take the regular kind. They are AWFUL!
I can honestly say that I'm not hungry, not in the conventional way. I can feel when I'm empty, which makes my tummy rumbly, but not really hungry. And nothing tastes good, so I think I'm in ketosis. Aftertaste is so bad. But really cold ice water is my savior and has been from day one! Thank God. I managed to go to the gym both on Sunday and today to walk on the treadmill, so that has helped me to feel better.
Sounds like you're doing well - keep up the great work!!!

Hi deborah
I had surgery 1/9/09, i really didn't start out hungry, but about a week out i started to get little hunger pains. I would eat a few bits and be done. I do crave red meat, a nice steak would be so awesome, and pickles. Ranch dressing, go figure. I see the nut tomorrow, so maybe she can explain things to me. I had a rough start, i had a bout with being terribly sick. I hope things are going well, i get to start pure foods as well this week. Maybe once you start them, and sip on water through out the day your hunger will go away. Congrats, on the new life you get to began now.
