vent/ pity party

I've pretty much kept this to myself, but I am really started to get frustrated. I had surgery on January 14th, so I'm not quite 3 weeks out yet. Anyway, I have had no appetite whatsoever. I know most people would see that as a blessing, which I sort of do. I guess I'd rather have no appetite than to be craving everything in site. However, I also feel kind of crappy all the time. I'm just ready to have my energy back. I'm tired of feeling tired. I'm trying to do everything I'm supposed to: take my vitamins, walk, get my protein in, etc.. I feel like I'm just making it through each day. The other thing that really bothers me is that most of the time I feel like I have lump in my throat, which makes me have like a gag feeling all the time. My stomach doesn't hurt or bother me. It's not like I feel sick to my stomach. I just feel like I want to get this lump out. This feeling in my throat subsides if I eat something, but since I have no appetite I rarely feel like eating anything. Has anyone else ever had this weird throat feeling?

Okay, I am grateful for the 36 pounds I've already lost and I think I'm done venting and having my pity party. I know it will come (or at least I hope so), but I'm not to the point yet where I can say I'm totally glad I had this surgery yet. I feel like I am "behind" where I should be at this point. Any advice or encouragment would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Heather,

First of all congratulations on your incredible start! Secondly, please know that you are in the midst of the hardest part of this journey and the good news is that it will and does get better. How fast we recover really varies, but I must say that your fatigue at this point is really pretty common and it will start to get better soon. I too was really struggling with fatigue, but when I was about a month out I went to a wedding and litterally danced the night fantastic. It still took a few weeks before I was feeling 100 percent, but at the time, I was amazed that I felt so much better than I had just a week or 10 days before.

I haven't had the 'lump in my throat' feeling that you've described, but if you cross post this discussion to the Main and RNY forums you might be casting a wider net and find others that have had that same experience.

Wishing you all the best as you make your way,

Barbara

I had that same feeling in my throat!!!  I kept thinking that scratched me or I had some swelling from being intubated during surgery....that feeling stayed with me for about 2 months, and then I could tell it was starting to go away because it was so much easier for me to eat.  I am six months out, still no hunger though...I'm glad because I would probably make some really bad choices.  The first 3 months were the hardest.  After that, I embraced my new life and I've felt great since then.
Keep your chin up...it will get better!
