Please excuse this rant.... GGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR hubby and crew left Africa (6 hours later then time scheduled) and landed at Ramstein Airforce base in Germany two days ago. This stop was scheduled for refueling the plane, taking showers, getting some food ect.  Something on the plane had malfunctioned not related to the engines.  They Air Force mechanics worked on it till 4:59 pm then said *well its the weekend we are done, sorry we didnt get it fixed*  hubbies boss the CO ran after them and said *we REALLY need to get home* so the mechanics kept trouble shooting. You guys are going to LOVE THIS............. because the flight crew who were going to fly them home  had STEPPED on the plane for 10 minutes and it was now after 5:00 pm and past scheduled time to leave, THE FLIGHT CREW GOT A AUTOMATIC 16 HOUR TIME OFF you have GOT to be ****ting me!!!!!!!!!!!    the flight crew was hi fiving each other, talking about how fun it was going to be to go out *clubbing* and staying at the fancy hotel out in town.  Hubby and crew are stuck in a crappy building with partitions between the cots and the bathroom is 200 feet OUTSIDE the building and it is snowing.  Hubby had been up for 42 hours straight and I have never seen him this upset and he NEVER loses his cool.  My husband is very  stressed out right now.  I got a call late last night to say the mechanics never did fix the plane and even if they did, the flight crew were not scheduled to have to be back to work till 5pm tonight.  The story gets better.  they have found out it is a parts failure and they do not have this part on the Air Base and it has to be flown in from Florida!!!!!!!!  There are four other C5 planes on the base sitting empty..... why not move the gear to another aircraft you ask?  The part that is broken is the nose on the plane.  For those not familiar with the C5 it is the largest and only aircraft in the world that can hold two helicopters inside, plus all the gear and all the troops. The nose of the plane opens up so they can load the front with one helicopter and then load the other in the back.  SOOOOO even if they wanted to switch planes they cannot get the front helicopter out and they CANNOT leave without it.   I am worried about my husband.  He is very stressed right now.  Not to mention his troops going nuts, there are a lot of family and friends who came to Jacksonville last week who are waiting to see everyone.  There are three men who have not seen their newborn babies that were born while they were gone.  Do you know how hard that would be?   There is one Marine who's fiancee flew in from California who has been  stuck in a hotel out in town for five days and is suppose to be back to work tommorro or be fired, she said it is more important to see her fiancee and is giving up her job to do so, even in this economy.  One Marines  entire extended family flew in from Michigan and they are scheduled to fly home tommorro, back to school and work. I could go on and on and on about all the private stories and it makes me so sad.  While most people will be having super bowl parties today hubby and crew are just trying to make it through the next few days till the part arrives.  PLEASE send good thoughts and wishes to them.  They have been gone for 7 months and two weeks and just want to COME HOME.  Thank you for listening to me.... Im ready to flip out right now.

OMG, Darcie!!!!  I feel so sorry for:  Your hubby, you,  all the families that are having to wait, and for the AF for being such a sorry branch of the military!!!  Sorry Daddy (he was retired AF).

These are the kinds of things NO ONE hears about.  We hear the great stuff, like our troops being applauded as they go through airports.  But we don't hear about the crap they have to put up with from their own government agencies!

Keep us posted.  I will be thinking of you while I am in G-Vegas with MY hubby!

My thought and prayer go out to you and all other military families.  I to have a military family.  My son is a former Marine and did 4 TOD's.  I know what is like to sit and wait.  My son in law is an Army Reservist and is in Iraq as we speak.  He did not get to see his second son until he was 2 wks old.  Please tell your hubby "Thank You" from us.  God Bless You and Yours

I'm sure there is a perfectly good reason they are not taking parts from another aircraft to fix the one that is scheduled to fly the men home!

When these men (and women) get home do they get to stay put for a while? I sure do hope so. Once they get home they deserve a nice long rest without any military responsibility. They have more than earned it. I appreciate that they are doing what they are doing for us but for heaven's sake they need to be brought home!

I pray that your husband will be able to get some rest so that when the Reunion time get here it will be great and I also pray for u that even in the mist of the disappointment that u know that God is in control I know  it don't look that way right now.  But trust he is.  But we all want the plane to get fix and done right . God bless and the best is yet to come.
