OT: Need some hugs (please)

Yall know I love my fur babies. Well my Great dane is a handful - she always has been. I've had her since she was 7 weeks old. She's not quite a year and a half now. Anyway - she hates the neighbors. She's been around them since the day I brought her home but she HATES them. Yesterday when they came back from the store - she managed to get out of her pen and trap the Mom in the garage and the kid in the car. Not only does she hate the neighbors but no female is safe around her and now she's also having some issues toward the cat. Even before this incident I was trying to make arrangements for her because of David's children. I feel like I can't trust her anymore (even in the pen).

I've been trying to find a home for her but there are very few confirmed batchelors with no love interests (or cats) that can either afford her, want her or have room for her. So I've placed a call to Great Dane Rescue to see if they can help. They're very willing to help - but it's killing me - this girl loves me and I love her. I know she's "just" a dog, as my mother loves to point out, but she's one of "my" dogs.

I'm in such an incredibly deep funk right now. thanks for reading.

(((((Iris))))

I'm so sorry about your dog.  I know how attached we get to our pets, so I can only imagine how this is causing you pain.  Just know that you are doing the best thing for her in the long run, even though it will be painful in the short-term.  Hang in there.

Take care,
Rhonda

You need a visit from the dog whisperer, Cesar Millan. www.cesarmillaninc.com
Sorry I am at work and cannot include an actual link. It shuts me down. He can work wonders with any dog. See if you can submit your case. Maybe he can help.

Iris,

I'm so sorry for your pain. I would contact some local dog trainers and discuss your concerns, fears, and issues. You might be able to find someone who can help her and help you, even if you can't keep her. But with the right guidance and support, maybe a miracle can happen.

I know how you feel about your doggies.  My daughter had a dog and when it died I was more upset than she was cause we spent the most time together.  Animals are so much company and they don't give you much lip either.  I hope your heart feels better soon but until then consider yourself hugged.

Iris, I'm so sorry your having to make this choice. But hang in there, the rescue organizations are wonderful and she will go to a great home that she is right for eventually. Just like people animals have their ways, and sometimes its not compatible with our family. My nephew had a chocolate lab that would jump thru the window (didn't matter if it was closed or not) when ever he saw something that set him off. (they never did figure out what exactly it was that did set him off)
Anyway, your doing the right thing and my thoughts and (((((hugs)))))) are with you while you work thru this.

Stay strong for your kids!!

Iris (((hugs)))

I understand, she's not just a dog, she has been part of your family.  But don't feel guilty, you're doing the best you can to get her a new home.  I'm sure either you or the "rescue" will be able to find her a good home where she'll feel safe, loved and I'm sure if you wanted to you could keep in touch with her new family to see how she's doing.  I hope you find peace!!!  Lots of hugs coming your way!!!

Hey Iris:

I hope everything will work out for you.  We have one dog, we used to call the devil dog as she was wonderful with family members and would attack anyone else.  We hired a behavior specialist and after about 3 visits, she is doing much better but we still have to watch her.   In December, we also got a 3rd dog who is part pekinese and, i have learned a runner.   We have an aluminum fence that looks like wrought iron and she dived through the pickets.  So we got vinyl chicken wire and put on the fence and she found spots where she could go under and we put bricks there.  Yesterday she found another area to get out and we are at our wit's end.  We tried to round her up for a hour yesterday and she just trhought it was a fun game.  We then lost track of her and after driving around for another 30 min... we pullled into our driveway and she came running to me like she was all excited to see me.  I am also at my wit's end as i am so afraid she will get hit by a car and i may have to turn her back in before that happens.  I hope everything works out for you my friend but be confident that they will find a home that fits for her.

Love you,

Pam
