Talk me out of it

I have my "almost 1 year" appointment with Dr. Harris on Friday. The appointment is for 2 reasons.

One reason being just a yearly check on my progress. The other, to address my hernia which has steadily become more of a nuisance over the past few months.

One side of me really needs to keep this appointment. It is time the hernia issue is addressed seriously. The other side of me is a bit disappointed in my progress and I am nervous that Dr. Harris will express his disappointment with me as well.

I know this isn't about Dr. Harris and I really shouldn't give a hoot what his opinion is BUT...I just don't want him to affirm my thoughts of feeling like a WLS failure lately.

*sigh*

So, tell me why I need to bite the bullet and keep this appointment. I can't hide from him forever.

Thanks peeps!

if your ticker is any indication, holy MOLY you are no failure! even if your starting weight was huge, it doesnt matter.... that's quite a bit. the important thing to remember is everyone goes at their own pace, right?

any think about it this way, if your hernia is bothering you enough to even mention it, the anxiety knowing you ignored it even longer is going to drive you bonkers. face the music, which i'm sure isn't going to be half as bad as you think it is, and take care of yourself!!! he's just a doctor!

(((Mare))),

First of all, you answered your own question to a certain extent. Of course you need to go see Dr. Harris because you need and deserve to have your annual follow up work done and you need to start having the hernia issues you are dealing with addressed. Next, I think that you are discounting your success. I looked at the total amount of weight you wanted to lose and you have lost about 60 percent of the excess weight you wanted to lose. That is statistically successful. You have not finished your journey. You need and deserve to get some help to continue the journey. As you said, this is not about his pride or disappointment in your performance. This about you getting the support you need to make this journey as successful as possible for you. This is not just a surgical solution for any of us; it's just that you are having to address the head issues sooner than some others. That doesn't make you a failure. Go in with your head held high, knowing that you have made incredible strides forward and take a list of questions that you need and want answered to address how to get you closer to goal... Again, not surgical support this time, but probably psychological and nutritional. You deserve it and you have earned it.

I hope to hear that your fears and anxiety about this appointment go unfounded and that you get all of the help and support you need to continue this life-changing journey.

Hugs,

Barbara

Hiya Mare,
Don't make me call Dr. Harris!  LOL  Just kidding ya!  Go on up there and get your checkup.  Tell him about the hernia.  He is a great surgeon and he will know what to do.  You have done great, and you are NOT a failure.  He is going to be proud of you!  C'mon! 157 pounds in one year!  That's awesome!  You should be very proud!  Let us know how it goes!

Thanks.
Actually just about 100 lbs since surgery. The other 50 I lost pre-op, that's why I feel like Dr. Harris will be disaapointed.
Oh well. I'm sure he has patients do alot worse than me. Besides., addressing this hernia and fixing it will allow me to do much more in the way of exercise.

Howdy stranger glad to see you posting again.
My thoughts on your feelings about seeing Dr. Harris are.... for so long when we were morbidly obese we would many times get lectures from our health care providers on You Need To Loose Weight.
Ok easy for them to say this to us so many times during our lives.
Then fate smiled on us and we chose WLS.
My goodness Mare look what you have done as far as weight loss NO You Are Not A Failure!!!
You maybe feeling like you are going to be given the old lecture of you need to loose weight.
Hold your head up high Mare and be proud of what you have done for yourself.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?
