Hi, Andrea!

I hope you and my little ones are well.  I recently had blood work done and was low in Vitamin D.  My surgeon prescribed 50,000 IU of Vit. D twice a week.  Can you give me some info. about Vit. D, please and point me in the direction of studies and/or research I should look at?  I appreciate your time.  You may have gone over this before, but unfortunately I do not get online here very often.  I have been having aches and pains in my neck and shoulders, and I am not sure if that is any way related.

Thanks so much!
JamieLynn

Jamie,

Andrea doesn't come on the board that often anymore either. You might want to try to PM her. You might also want to do a search for 'VitaLady.'

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara

I'm here.

You want a dry form of vite D.

Vite D is a fat-soluble vitamin, same as AE and K.  This means that in normal-gutted folks, people absorb these particular vitamins better in the presence of fats and oils.  And that's great -- for your hubby.

Due to our malabsorbtive procedure, we don't absorb the fats and oils like normal folks.  Sure, we absorb some of it, but nowhere near the same amount.  DS'ers have it even worse.

So there are water-soluble versions of D out there that are not encased in oil and help speed the absorption.  This is known as "dry D" or water-miscible D.  You can't find it many places.  This includes that script you have.

Go to vitalady.com and order her D3-50 to replace your script.  It is the exact same quantity of D, but in a water-miscible form and you'll absorb it better.  Or you could order the D3-5's and take 10 of them throughout the day to maximize your absorption (I did this, and noticed a change immediately) because it's just like the B's -- if your body can't use the vitamin at that particular point in time it flushes it.  No worries -- they are *tiny*.

Your aches and pains are classic symptoms of osteomalacia, or adult-form ricketts.  The body is leeching calcium from your bones and they ache for that.  Did doc do a PTH as well?

Thanks, Andrea!  I knew you would have some information.  I am not sure if PTH was on there are not.  I believe I remember seeing it, but I will check.  He also put this iron called Ferretts Iron that he said studies have shown works better for us wls people.

I appreciate your help and ordering from vitalady looks like it will even save me money.  Thanks, girl!
