I've read a few posts this morning so now I feel better.  I had surgery 01-05-09 and yesterday it seem like I was back at day one. Like I hit a brick wall.  No energy couldn't hardly move and I thought I was having a relapse.  I guess I probably have over done it the last several days with working, shopping and going to the gym.  Time out this weekend.  I do have a question.  What is meals like at 3 mos out.  I'm still on 1 oz 3 times a day and its really getting rough.  I see Nut feb 2 so I'm excited about that but I would like to know about what your capable of having 3 mos. post op.
Thanks
Sharon

Hey Sharon,

Congrats on your surgery.  Remember you are still healing and you will have some days that you have lots of energy then other days you feel really tired.  Just take it easy.  As for the food,  I am a little over 5 months post op and I can eat 3-4 oz of food at one time.  For breakfast I will eat some yogurt, cheese and crackers.  For lunch I will have turkey chili (I make it myself) or I will have just grilled chicken breast with cheese.  Cheese has been my life saver.  I can't always finish things but I eat slow and get full fast as I don't want to over do it and feel sick.  I listen to what my stomach is telling me.  I can eat one thing one day and get sick off it another day.  I just recently started eating protein bars as well.  You will find what works best for you, but the first few months are pretty much trial and error.  I always eat my protein first but it was about 3 months before I was able to get all of my protein in.  Always make sure you get enough water too so you don't get dehydrated.  Good Luck

At about 6 months I was up to about 1/2 a cup of food and i am almost a year out and probably about the same...maybe a little more with stuff such as salad.  As far as going to the gym, please be careful.  I overdid it with yard work at about 2 weeks out and almost ended up back in the hospital.   Right now you should just be walking.

Take care,

Pam

The lack of energy will subside.  You have to realize that your body has been through traumatic surgery.. AND change to your anatomy.  Be patient and give it time to heal.  However, I can tell you that in a few weeks you will feel like your "old self" enery wise and probably even better.

As for food.. My doctor's office gave me a week by week guide for the first 12 weeks of post op eating.  At three months out I was still eating about 1/2 of a cup per meal, and had been realeased to eat "normal" food.  I was always one to listen to the clues of my body rather than feel enslaved to rules and regulations.  Meaning.. that if I did not feel ready to move on to a certain food, I chose not to eat it.  I would say that 1 ounc 3 times a day is not enough food.  I was instructed to eat 6 times a day and I just dont see how you are functioning with so little calories.  I would be tired too!
