Hello All,

I'm just wondering if anyone else out there is 20+months out (roux n y) and still not at goal.  I am in that boat.  My weightloss slowed way down about 12 months ago when I started nursing school and still worked full time.  In hind sight I realized I was not eating alot, but eating the wrong foods, ie cheeseits.  I have since gone back to my Dr. and told them I am scared to death of not getting the weight off (I have about 35lbs until I reach goal) long story short, they gave me some advise which I am following.  I am eating about 1000 calories per day, eating every 3 hrs. limiting my carbs., drinking my water and getting exercise on the weekends.  Here is my dilema,  I am sooooo hungry in between those meals,  It is super natural hunger!!!   I am able to have SF Jello which help some.  Is anyone out there going thru this?

Thanks Joanne

Hi Joanne,

First of all, congratulations on your successes. I know that you still want to work on getting the next 35 lbs off and I am sure that you will.

I have found that if I load with 2 to 3 ounces of protien at each 'meal' and then follow with an ounce or 2 of complex carbs, they tend to 'hold' me better. I think that we must have had our surgeries at about the same time because, I too am about 20 months post op. While I did reach goal, I have found that I can eat much more than I thought I would be able to and if I indulge in crunchy or slider foods I not only can consume much more calories than I would like to, but I don't stay satisfied very long. I have found that the combination of protien and fiber have been a big help in satisfying hunger for me, so things with beans have been a huge help because they provide a 2 for 1 punch.

Wishing you continued success as you work towards  your goal,

Barbara

I second what Barb said.  Also, try loading up on your water between meals.  Fill up 2 cups (or more) and sip as much as you can as quickly as you can without causing discomfort.  This trick is called water loading.  It fills the trunk of the RNY plumbing and will help you to keep full and satisfied longer.  Combine this with  the protein and fiber, you should be good.  Only one rule, remember to wait at least 30 minutes after eatimng before water loading.  If you can manage 80-100 ounces a day, you might just drown that supernatural hunger.  Stay cleart of those simple carbs, they are evil and will take you down.

Thank you both for the encouragement.  Just a quick update, I've been really watching what I eat and getting back to basics, drinking my water (filling up on water when I think I'm hungry),  And guess what????  I'm down 10 lbs since I posted in January. So if there is anyone out there where is as far out as I am and not at goal......DON'T GIVE UP!!!!  Just keep working at it.

Joanne
