... and it was WONDERFUL!

I know that this might not seem like a big deal, but for me this was a big deal. I used to have massages on a very regular basis and as my observant 14 year old daughter has mentioned, I was much more comfortable with myself before I had surgery than I have been since I've lost the weight. I'm okay, clothed, but unclothed UGH!!! Feb 08 was my 50th birthday and my sister and brother gave me a gift certificate for a massage, but I just couldn't loosen up and go. Well, it expires in a couple of weeks and the scotch in me got the best of me and I decided I just couldn't let it expire because I was too embarrased to use it. I was nervous. I did explain that I'd lost a great deal of weight and had a lot of loose skin to my massage therapist. She was very nice and I had lovely massage. It's taking a while, but I think with time, I'm growing up and learning to accept my body.

Barbara I highly recommend you get another one just as soon as it is available.  I try to get one a month mainly after a bad hard hike and the Woman that I go to honestly is top shelf. Its a treat that everyone should at least try out one time if not get hooked on them. I waffled around last year when my wife got me a certificate and almost like you let it expire. Was I a fool or what. It was one of the best hours I have had in years. So I gave my wife a half a years worth for part of her santa claus and I just pop in and get them as I need one.

I've been trying to get Ben to try a massage for decades, but he's such a guy and won't let another guy do it and is afraid to let a lady do it. Oh well! I guess he'll never know what he's missing.

Enjoy for the both of you.

GOOD FOR YOU!!!  I've been wanting to do that, but very scared.  Do they rub you all over?  What kind of massage did you ask for?   Would you have done it if it were a man?  I think I'd feel more comfortable with a woman too.  Maybe I'll ask for that for Valentine's Day!!!

HI Michelle,

I used to get them all the time and am comfortable with either a man or a woman. I've had both.

I had a 'swedish massage' which is what you would normally have if you want something that's just relaxing. Another common, relaxing massage is called a hot stone massage that's done with hot, smooth stones.

You can have them massage as much as you are comfortable ... and you can remain as clothed as you are comfortable. If you decide to keep your 'underclothes' on, you might want to use a strapless bra. Most massage therapist are very adept at allowing you to move and turn over without compromising your modesty. You can specify areas that you want to have massaged and areas you don't want massaged. If you have areas that you need/want work, just let them know. My neck, back and shoulders were tight so that's where she focused her attention and then gave me a little work everywhere else. She didn't do much on my hips and didn't even touch my abdomen or chest. I have had work done in those areas before, but not this time.

I hope that helps some. Do it. You'll enjoy, I promise.

I LOVE massages... but haven't had one since my surgery.... I figure if they could stand rubbing me when i was fat they'll be able to handle a few wrinkles!!!  My favorite is the hot stone massage.... gosh i love them... Ok, you talked me into it... i'm gonna make an appointment for one!!!

Hi Judy,

Ben, Sarah and others have been asking me what I want for my birthday and I may ask them to get together and give me another gift certificate for another massage. I was looking at the stones today when I had my massage thinking that a hot stone massage would be great.

Let me know how you like yours.

I have never had a full body massage but I do so want one. Maybe I will treat myself if I get the job I am interviewing for tomorrow. I too have lots of loose skin but I still have some fat there and maybe the m assage will help it to go away. Okay its wishful thinking but I can dream can't I?

Seems to me like you've earned it and if you get the new job, maybe you can get one with your first paycheck!

I have never had a massage.. so I am jealous!!  The sad part is that one of my very good friends is a massage therapist, and I have never taken the time to make an appointment.  I suppose part of it is the girls (meaning my biological children.. LOL)...  it's hard to find time with a 3 and 8 year old.

I am glad you went... and hey.. you need to go back as soon as you can.  I know that neither one of us will be posing for Playboy anytime soon, but a massage is nakedness in private...  :D
