My husband and I are going on a cruise in March. I need a ****tail dress!! I have one, but it's a size 24 and will need to be majorly altered if I plan to wear it. There are 2 "dress-up" dinners on our cruise.

Anyone out there willing to part with a ****tail dress- CHEAP, size 16-18???

Sorry - I don't have anything that size - you may want to try the goodwill stores in your area - that's where my Mom found hers a few years ago.

Enjoy the cruise.

I agree with the other poster.  Check the local thrift stores in your area.  You want one that will work for the cruise (that sounds like so much fun) but you don't want a forever dress since you'll still be shrinking. :-)

The last time I went on a cruise (years ago), I foun a really great dress at the local thrift store for under $10.  Can't beat that.  Also, I've noticed that Ross Stores even has some brand new for $30 or less.

Hope that helps!  Have fun.

Check your local consignment shops. You may find some nicer things there. My son got married last fall and I was able to find some stunning things at the local consignment stores. I also have found some fabulous buys one eBay.

Good luck!

Thanks for all of your help. I had planned on scoping out the consignment/thrift/GW stores in the area. I guess I should head on up to Lake Norman or to Ballentyne to see what types of duds I can find!!!

Thanks!

I should clarify that the Junior League Wearhouse is a thrift store -- consignment.  So the pieces are used... but they are generally really, good quality pieces :)

I live in Ballantyne, and there are some amazing stores down here... maybe even running sales!

No suggestions, just wanted to share in your excitement!  You're going to have so much fun shopping for a dress now that you are so much smaller!

I wore a very dressy blouse and slacks to formal night on our last cruise because I just wasn't comfortable shopping for a dress at my weight at the time.  It's my dream/goal to have THE perfect little black dress for our cruise in December of this year!

Hope you have a wonderful time.  Care sharing your ports of call and what ship you'll be sailing on?  I love living vicariously through other cruisers!

Dang.. I wish you would have posted a bit sooner.  I just gave away a nice black satin strapless dress that I wore to a semiformal last year.  It was a size 16 and I only wore it once.  Ebay is a good place to find nice inexpensive dresses too.  :)

I found my cruise dress at Ross. You should find something there around $20-30.  Maybe you should wait til Feb, because you may lose more and not be able to fit it if you buy something now.   Ebay is also a good choice, but the downside is you can't try it on before you buy it.   They also have a good clearance reack at David's Bridal. We found my sister's prom dress there for 19.00.
