Got a date and a time!!!!!!!!

Wednesday, Jan. 28th at 5:45.  I am the first patient for the day.  I get to roll out of bed, do my bath thing and walk out the door to my new life.  I live about 3 miles from the hospital and that's literally what I'm going to do. I can not believe that the time has gotten here so quickly.

Any advice on what to bring would be great. I know I've seen it on here before, but didn't pay much attention because I wasn't sure if this was going to happen.

Chapstick - a pillow or two from home to help you get comfortable and some shoes for walking the halls. Other than that the hospital provides you with most everything else and only being 3 miles from home somebody can step and fetch it if you need it.

Just think - next week this time, it'll be all over with. WOO HOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get ready for the ride of your life.

Hi Deborah,
I am 1 week post op today. I too was the first surgery of the day and I was so glad. I had to be at the hospital at 5:15 AM, was wheeled back and prepped by 6 AM. Surgery started right on time at 7:15 AM and the surgeon was out talking to my hubby at 9 AM. Like I told my friend the night before, by the time she was finishing her 2nd cup of morning coffee, I would be well on my way to a new life. And the same goes for you.

The only advice I have on what to bring to the hospital is chapstick. I did bring a couple pairs of fresh panties to wear after surgery while I was in the hospital and deodorant. The hospital provided those socks with the skids on them for when you're walking the halls. I'm not really a slipper person (they make my feet get too hot and sweat), so I didn't bring those. I did bring a pillow for the ride home, but I live over an hour from the hospital (didn't need the pillow, slept most of the way home anyway). I know some people shower before they leave the hospital, but I waited until I got home. I just wanted to be in the comfort of my own home, so I didn't take shampoo or anything like that. Honestly, the only things I needed/used were chapstick, clean panties, and deodorant. I know you can do without the clean panties, but I'm just weird about not having panties on. Before I went into surgery I asked the nurse how soon after surgery I'd be allowed to put on panties and a bra.

Anyway, best wishes on your new life. Before you know it you'll be home and it will all be behind you!!

The only thing I would bring with me if I had to do it over again would be my pajama pants.  They were the only thing I used out of the bag that I packed.   Of course, us guys have fewer "needs".  LOL

Here are some things that helped me keep my sanity during my stay at Mercy.  :)

1.  MY LAPTOP... I used it to surf the net and watch some DVDs I took with me.
2.  MY OWN GOWN.  Many folks here will say to leave that at home, but I felt much better in my own clothes and with the scent of home close by.
3.  Crocs/Rainbows for walking.  Bedroom shoes are too awkward and slippery.  Get ya some good slip resistant shoes to walk in after surgery.
4.  My own pillows.  I dont leave home without them.
5.  Chapstick for sure.
6.  Books if you like to read.
7.  I even took my own toiletries.  I did bathe and wash my hair.  I am not one to go around looking like a haint because I had surgery.  LOL
8.  STRETCHY clothes.  Something that you can just slip into to go up there and wear home.  And dont plan on wearing a bra home.  Its too painful.

Im sure I will think of more, but these things made my stay much more more bearable.  :)
