OT - Teenagers & Snow

I love my children. I love my children. I love my children. If I say it enough it just might sink in. I have teenage sons. They in turn drive 4 wheel drives. It snowed yesterday. Logic follows that they would go slide riding. They did - and had a ball. The trouble comes late in the day - 9 pm last night in fact. My oldest son (Buddy) was out with a friend and they got stuck in a ditch. They in turn called the youngest son (Wayne)  to bring his jeep and pull them out. He does. Meanwhile someone had reported a car in the ditch. Sheriff dispatches deputies to check it out. Buddy and friend had left for home. Wayne is stowing his tow rope when the cops arrive. He tells them what had happened.

Everything seems to be ok. They run a license check on him and it comes back that he is driving on a suspended license. they handcuffed him and took him to JAIL. Apparently when we took him out of regular school and put him in the community college program the high school reported him as a drop out (even though he just completed the program and has his diploma). State law yanks their license if they're not in school and under 18. 

So last night - after dark - on icy roads I had to go 30 miles to the jail and pick up my kiddo. The magistrate is a friend of mine and she couldn't believe that the sheriffs dept. had gone to such extremes. On top of all of this - I was at my fellas house when it all happened so he got to see all the  drama that comes along with me and my baggage. I felt like white trash. We had a good laugh over it once we got home from jail - but still - I would have liked to have had a little more getting to know the real me time before something like this came along.

Sorry if I'm rambling but had to share it with you guys. At the very least - I didn't resort to stress eating like I once would have.

I am so sorry that happened!!!  Wow, what a story to tell the grandkids one day!

Just one of many - I can't decide if we should write a book - tape a reality show or just make it a sit com. At least it's getting funnier to me.

So I guess the lesson learned from this is carry your diploma in the glove box!!!   Never heard of such a thing.  Sorry you had to go through that.  Forget the drugs, teen violence, etc.  Take a young man to jail that was trying to help someone.  Makes no since to me.

I completely get the sarcasm. I told David, as we were riding to the jail, that it was nice to know that we live in a crime free, drug free, gang free county. He looked at me like I'd sprouted a 3rd eyeball - I said it had to be that way if all the cops had to do was arrest teenagers who were off slide riding. (witty?)

I think you're right on the lesson learned - I had always wondered why they made wallet sized diplomas - now I know.

Love Deborah's sarcasm on the issue.  Right on the money.  Poor guy!  Will he have this on his record anywhere?  I surely hope not! 

Supposedly we'll have to get a copy of his transfer from the highschool to the Community college then his completion records from them and take all of that to DMV the DMV will give us something to take to the DA who will in turn drop the charges. Sounds like a load of horsecrap to me - but what do I know I'm just the Mom?

Bless  your heart Iris! I raised 2 boys myself and went thru the jail pick ups too.
At least they were minor things and just a slap on the wrists.
The last time my youngest one called me was when he went thru a license check.
He had not been drinking but there was an empty (well almost empty) bottle of vodka in his truck so they took him to the jail house. They didn't do a thing when they got there except tell him to call me to come get him. This was at 2am!!! He was waiting for me out on the sidewalk.
I told him next time to call a cab if all he needed was a ride home lol
Boys will be boys!!
Thanks God that they are married with their own sons now. Pay Back will be SOOOO much fun to watch

If this fella is the right one, he will hang in there with you, baggage and all!

Thank you for the ray of hope - I will live through this. Last night gave David a true glimpse at what life with teenagers can be like. his kids are 9 & 4.  After we dropped wayne off at my house we went back to his house where my van was at - lo and behold he was inspired to go ring donuts in an icy parking lot. We laughed like we were about 12 years old. Oh the irony - we had already decided we'd call my oldest son to come bail us out.  I really think he's a keeper.

At least he's laughing.
