How long to weight before lifting waits?

When I was 4 weeks post-op I was walking 30-45 minutes every other day, so I increased my level of exercise to include strength training without weights.  However, I still had my G-tube in, and the pain I felt afterwards lasted for a week.  It wasn't just sore muscles.  I felt like I did immediately after surgery.  So, now that I am 6 weeks out and have no foreign objects hanging out of my body, I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how long you waited to begin strength training with bands or weights.  Thanks a bunch!

I asked the doc at my 4 week appointment when/if I could get back on the weight machine.  He told me to start slow right then if I wanted to and then work upward from there. 

Way to go getting right on the exercise wagon!

My Dr. gave me the same advice as Jason recieved, but I would call your Dr's office and ask them directly because I didn't have a G-tube and I'm not sure where you are in  your recovery.

I would ask Dr. Mitchell.  Each doc certainly has their own rules and beliefs about weight lifting and resuming normal activities.  Since Dr. Mitchell leaves that G tube for so long (and as far as I can tell he is the only one that does..) I would say that you should definately ask him.

Thanks for the advice.  I contacted my office and they said to be careful because I am still healing.  I should start slowly and build up.   I've learned my lesson.  I'm going to take it slow and easy.
