What to Expect

I will be going to my Psychologist. Appt. and Nutritionist Appt. this month. The first one is with the Psychologist on Jan. 29. I am really nervous about it. I met him at the Dr.'s office 2 weeks ago. He seemed really nice. I have some issues that happened several years ago and I don't know whet ever this should be brought up to him. I think things that doesn't pertain to the surgery should be left alone. I don't feel bringing this up will make a difference. Also, it would cause a lot of pain. What are your thoughts on this? How much of your medical history is confidential? The Nutritionist has sent a packet in the mail to answer questions The first question is to record your weight back to the year of 2003. I don't know these numbers exactly. I don't know about you but my memory isn't that good. I guess I could call and find this out. What are some of the things to expect from each of the the Appts.

Everybody's visit to the Psyc. seems to be a tad different, but I'm sure if it's not related to food/diet/exercise he should leave it alone.  There was nothing much to mine.  A LONG questionaire about what/when/why I eat and stuff like that and then a brief chat with the doctor.  Nothing much to it.  As far as you weights from previous years.  I would think estimating would be ok.  Alot of times, however, documentation is requested.  But, if they don't ask, I wouldn't worry about it.

Good luck to you!

At my psychologist appointment I had taken all of my diet history. I actually had a Dr. that had written down programs that I was doing over the last 10 years so that was good. You will need to have a list of programs that you have tried to loose weight with.

Also they do ask when you gained the weight. Do you have depression, mental disorders, etc.
Do you have suicidal thoughts, have you ever acted on those thoughts. etc. The surgery can cause depression in some people so they want to make sure you are ready for the side effects. Some people do have to see a psycologist further before they will release them.

I was very prepared for my psychologist visit because I had the diet history and sorta knew what to expect. Also I had done a lot of research on weight loss surgery. They want to make sure you are ready for the surgery and you know what the surgery entails.

Just to add about the psych appt, mine asked a lot about family history (metal and physical health) and support systems that you already have in place.  I think mine was impressed that I was laready a member here.

For me the weight history was 5 years and it had to come from a doctors office but I think that had to do with insurance requirements.  I guess everyone's experience is a little different.

Good luck!!

The doc at my psychiatrist appt. wanted to make sure that I knew what the procedure entails (even describe it in your own words) and wanted to know what I expected from it. I get the feeling that they don't want you thinking that all of your problems will be solved after you have surgery. She also made it clear that the purpose of surgery is not to make you look like a model or conform to those skinny height/weight charts.
